Sussex Squire Wines is a small Clare Valley producer with a 5 star Halliday Winery Rating. We only sell through cellar door and have no retail distribution as we focus mainly on small production of Dry Grown RED WINES with our selection of one white and 10 reds. The line up of wines include the tasting of our premium award winning Shiraz from our Dry Grown vineyard that we manage with organic principles under vine. I produce other single vineyard wines from other varieties that showcase the Clare Valley including Malbec, Mataro, Sangiovese, Grenache & Riesling. Visit our cellar door to taste our selection of wines while chatting to the winemaker and owners Mark and Skye with Milo the Jack Russell winery dog. There is a $10pp tasting fee, fully redeemable on purchase. Please CALL ahead if your group is FOUR or more to book a spot. Due to Covid -19 restrictions we CAN NOT cater for single groups over 10 people in cellar door.
This husband and wife team (Mark & Skye), are united in delivering a quality tourism experience with the most exquisite wines (but don’t take my word for it, James Halliday has gold-starred a number of their wines.) We felt very welcomed here and enjoyed the time given to tell us their story and learn of their small batch wines. A production of love produces wines I will be proud as a South Australian to share with my wino friends interstate.

A wonderful way to explore the Clare Valley and the vineyards on foot or bike is along the Riesling Trail, a repurposed railway line, which stretches thirty three kilometres between Auburn and Barinia. Due to limited time and extreme weather conditions, high temperatures and winds, we had to cancel our half-day plans to hike south from Clare to discover the nearby countryside and vineyards. Instead we parked our car near the 'Mob of Sheep' outdoor installation and hiked south for fifteen mnutes fortunately mostly in the shade then back. Disappointing for us but on our future travel list.

Established by the Jesuits in 1851, Sevenhill Cellars is the oldest winery in South Australia's Clare Valley and the only Jesuit-owned winery in Australia. Originally established to produce altar wine, Sevenhill is now recognised for its premium table wines, which express the Clare Valley's distinctive varietal characteristics. The historic winery and cellar door, St Aloysius' Church, the College building, surrounding vineyards and spiritual sites give visitors an opportunity to combine appreciation of exceptional wines with an understanding of Sevenhill's religious and historic significance. You can discover this rich heritage by following our walking trail using a self-guided map, which are available at Cellar Door.
Really enjoyed the Sevenhill wine and hospitality! Beautiful grounds and an interesting history to be found at this winery, which is also a stop along the Reisling Trail.

Comeone suggested we take a tour of Martindale Hall during our winetasting days at Clare. What a wonderful surprise. Amazing home, decorated perfectly with period pieces and accessories. We have visited mansions in UK and USA and this one compares beautifully. Receptionist was very knowledgeable and helpful.

We were a group of 10 ,visiting wineries in the Clare Valley. At Killikanoon, we had the most superb experience hosted by Garrett. We tasted a large selection of terrific wines while learning about the topography and terroir of the valley. In these Covid19 days, we were in a private room. The tasting lasted about 1.5 hours and of course we purchased plenty. A magnificent tasting and I would highly recommend this to any liker of wine.
