Taverns in farmers' villages of internal Crete have a social role above all. They keep some life in these villages and preserve a link to traditional life for young Greeks and foreigner tourists. Temenia tavern is excellent for this, as it is also tavern Elyros in the nearby village of Rodovani. In these places, perfection of cooking etc should not be the most important criterion, but you can indeed enjoy some traditional tastes in a relaxing yard. The best experience inTemenia tavern is the welcoming cheese and liver appetizers that were probably enough in the past for a group of local people to drink few kilos of wine or raki.My suggestions to the owners: Reduce the amount of welcoming dishes and increase the main dish portions. Chestnut stiffado is special but it would be favored by more onions and sauce. Kreatopita, meant to be specialty of the region, was rather disappointing. Finally, some people might prefer to have the complimentary raki at the end and not as an entry, as it happens here.

So much respect for the challenging undertaking of veganizing traditional dishes. As someone with many allergies (gluten, nightshade veggies, dairy...) I was happy to have options! I had the verde risotto which did not disappoint! The small kitchen and careful attention to detail resulted in me feeling like I was eating a home-cooked meal. The only thing lacking was environment & service. The tables are on an awkward slant which is not too comfortable... and the large sign for the restaurant blocks a lot of the beautiful ocean view. The service was lackadaisical and didnât feel intentional or warm. Regardless, I would have loved to eat there again and again if I were to return!

really excited to be visiting this restaurant and turned out to be the biggest disappointment of the holiday. Table booked for 8 pm, waitress welcomed us nice table, chose our meals and the choice of wine is red or white by the carafe, starters came together with the wine, starters very good, then we waited and waited, after 1 1/2 we gave up waiting for our main course, just as we were leaving one of the meals came out of the kitchen, no sign of the slow cooked pork, so so disappointed, no explanation given for delayThank you, rewecourt !!We are really sorry about what happened, there is no excuse but bad time handling from kitchen and service! We will make sure that will never happen again!

BEHIND THE TOWN HALL 100 METERS FROM THE BUS STATION Traditional Cretan and Mediterranean food
We found this hidden gem through Trip Advisor. A small restaurant of the beaten path. Didnt look incredible, a small old looking tavern. For a a moment the friendly couple with us considered not entering.Thank god we actually did. From the beginning the staff was friendly, you could see this is a family restaurant. The menu was quite big with a lot of options mainly in cooked food but also with roasted meats. We ordered 4 main dishes and 2 starters. Everything was original, full of taste and in big portions. We all agreed that it made is think that our yiayia(grandma in Greek) had just cooked her best food for us. Every bite exploded in my mouth with taste and family memories. To top the excellent food, the cook who is the father of the family came to our table and had a beautiful conversation with us with the company of Cretan raki! What can i say, one of the best meals we had in Chania and only thing that made me sad is the fact that the place wasnt busy when we visitied. It should be packed full with customers!!
