Porthleven (/ˌpɔːrθˈlɛvən/) is a town, civil parish and fishing port near Helston in Cornwall. It is the most southerly port on the island of Great Britain, and was originally developed as a harbour of refuge, when this part of the Cornish coastline was recognised as a black spot for wrecks in days of sail. Nearby Loe Bar was particularly infamous, with swimmers and surfers being warned off the area. Porthleven has many large areas of social and council housing. An electoral ward called Porthleven and Helston South also exists. The population at the 2011 census was 3,059.

Some people believe that King Arthur abandoned his sword Excalibur in Loe Pool, Cornwall's largest natural body of freshwater.
We visited on a quiet winters morning, parked in the national trust car park. It was a lovely walk down the hill to the lake, the stables were closed as it is out of season, yet we had some sandwiches with us and found a beautiful spot with a bench overlooking the lake, so peaceful and great for watching all the wildlife on the lake, could have spent hours there, will definitely return for another visit

Overlooking the harbour in historic Porthleven, the Customs House Gallery is located in a building that has stood proudly since 1840. The gallery's light, airy and inviting space displays a large and diverse collection of original work, primarily by local artists. More information about our artists and their current work on show can be found on our e-commerce website. The gallery is a member of the Own Art scheme which allows the cost of artwork to be spread over ten months with no deposit or interest to pay. An on-site bespoke framing service is also offered. You can be assured of the highest standard of workmanship, using quality materials to suit a range of tastes and budgets.
A very conveniently located large sized apartment (4 adults and a dog) Plenty of modern equipment. Beautiful well equipped kitchen. Busy harbour but quiet and relaxing location. Tastefully decorate with comfy beds and a large sofa in the lounge area. Would certainly visit again. The owners are a lovely helpful couple who own the shop below which is very convenient if you require any help Wish I was there now!!!!

Lovely village and beach, love this place ... it has a hipster surfer vibe which is is a complementary contrast to the local area ... though hopefully doesn't go to far in future. The Ship is a great vantage point to watch the world go buy. The beach is also long (and on a pleasant September day) not too crowded.
