It was an appropriately overcast and rainy day when we arrived a the May 4 Site in August of 2020. The Visitors Center was closed to visitors, but we did walk the site, which was a very moving experience. The old plaque marking the site is there, but there is also a fitting memorial that has been added in recent years. Beyond a threshold that implores: learn, inquire, reflect, are four granite slabs honoring Allison Beth Krause, 19; Jeffrey Glenn Miller, 20; Sandra Lee Scheuer, 20, and William Knox Schroeder, 19 who were shot by members of the National Guard on May 4, 1970. In a nearby parking lot, the actual sites where the students were killed are set off by stanchions. Just up a hill is a work of modern art (Don Drumm's 'Heart of Steel') bears a bullet hole freezing the moment in time.

This 1/2 mile loop is very well maintained all down in decking. It makes for a great walking surface with only slight incline in one area and minor areas where not flat. The path is two people wide and left nature intact. Very nice area to observe the unique nature and there is wildlife running about as in chimpmunks, squirrels, rabbits and snakes. Turtles and deer are possible also to my knowledge. Nice peaceful scenic walk. There are bugs of course so some spray depending on your desire could be handy. Nice clean well maintained parking is available. Highly enjoyed as long as you know what it is before going. Easy in and out.

We have visited a number of brew pubs in the area lately, and this one stood out with the variety of options it offered. Lots of different tasty beers, a game room, a live music room, and outdoor patio seating and games. For food, they bring in food trucks and the night we were there we enjoyed Grumbelly's waffle pizzas. Service was fast and friendly; prices were reasonable. The place appeals to groups of friends, couples, and families of all ages. Would definitely go back.
