The founders of Leatherback Brewing Company share a love of St. Croix and craft beer. Each of the owners had followed his own path into the world of craft beer, but they all agreed that St. Croix was the perfect place to continue the journey. Several styles of beer are being brewed with some featuring local ingredients. Beer is canned and kegged on site. Visitors can tour the facility and learn about the brewing process. The tasting room features an indoor and outdoor bar with a family friendly atmosphere. The company’s namesake, the Leatherback turtle, perfectly embodies the spirit of the company. These majestic sea turtles are world travelers, yet those born here always return, recognizing the special quality of the island. We also recognize that St. Croix is a special place and we support the outdoor island lifestyle on the island. Support for local initiatives that benefit the environment, our neighbors, and the potential of the island have been part of the plan since day one.
Ever since they've opened, we still LOVE stopping at Leatherback Brewery and enjoy visiting there several times during every trip to STX. Their beers are consistently great & their service is very friendly. Our favorite beer is their stouts and their Blonde Lager. We enjoy their menu and daily snack board specials. Their pizza & cheese bread are both REALLY good - we had it twice this trip!!! In addition to enjoying their changing selection of beers, we also love Winn's bush tea with Mutiny Island Vodka or even without. Very nice flavors. We end our trip with one last stop at Leatherback for great beer & food before hitting the airport. They host some great entertainers & events at their facility. You can enjoy playing corn hole on their grounds. The breezes are always nice out there to cool you off. The owners are GREAT local people who have done a fantastic job with the brewery business island wide. We wish them continued success.

I do not know where those negative reviers went to, but our tour was well received, lots of things to see and do for about 15 minuted before given a briefing on how their rum is made. (The tour guide seemed to be proud to be showing us the process and the step to making their rum.) Patricia D. nailed it on what we experience also. Great helpful and informative staff, the presentation was very interesting. They even threw in a funny list of different pirate phrases and their translations (many of these phrases come from the British Royal Navy!) I think it was because Captain Morgan was in historical fact, an admiral in the English Royal Navy! Rum tasting was actually very good we received 4 samples with different flavors and how to use them in mixed drinks. You also received your choice of one rum cocktail! Finally the gift shop. Some Captain Morgan souvenirs, rums, t-shirts, hats, and even some other alcoholic drinks that are (I am sure) part of their corporate holdings. The booze was reasonably priced and close to the prices on the ship. ( I even shelled out some good money for a Captain Moran 3 cornered hat! Altogether a pretty good visit, beter than what we had at the Barcardi Rum factory in Puerto Rico!
