We had a fantastic visit to this small, family run bodega in Rias Baixas. For €10 we had a super personalised tour of the vineyard and the bottling process, and tried 3 different wines. Fernando (1 of the 2 siblings out of 5 who works full time at the vineyard) was really knowledgeable, incredibly friendly and a great laugh. We were a group of 4 guys (each a couple) with a Spaniard, a fluent Spanish speaker and the other 2 understood enough to get by. Fernando tried really hard to make sure everyone felt included despite limited English (they do tours in English but there were none available that day), and the non-fluent Spanish speakers still loved it. The wine was delicious (we each bought two bottles) & the experience was one of the best on our road trip from Bilbao to o Porto. Amazing.

My mom and I did the tour during a weekday when they opened for the day. We were the only two on our tour. Our guide was amazing, she kept my attention for the whole tour and was really personable and friendly. I think we went over the allotted time because the tour was so good. This was also the first wine tasting where I felt like I was understanding how to apply my senses to the tasting, because again, our guide was that good. The views are amazing, the wine is great. You can get their Albarino in the states. Take me back, please.

Our little story begins in the heart of the Salnes Valley, in the deepest part of this millenary land called Galicia. In our cozy valley came a group of German monks at the beginning of the 20th century, taking with them the original Albarino strains from the Rhine Valley. And this generous land received them so well that the vines adapted to the microclimate of the valley.

Condes de Albarei winery was founded in 1988 by the hand of a group of enthusiastic vine growers from Salnes Valley, interested in marketing the Albarino grape they produced. It soon would become an indispensable reference in the Rias Baixas Apellation of Origin.
