We have friends in Kendal and visit them every month and meet them in the Duke and as we drive down from Carlisle on the old A6 over shap a journey of about a hour the pub sits on the left hand side just past the trading estate before the bridge they have a nice outside sitting area for those summer days dogs are welcome and they have a good selection of wine and beers parking is not a problem as a large car park so very handy meals served on a daily basis and a good selection for all and a walk into Kendal is only 15 minuets away just over the water bridge so treat yourselves to a nice friendly pub

The Westmorland Bar with casual pub seating and Real Ale is ideal for a pub lunch, snack, coffee and cake or drink. Catherine's Restaurant in a comfortable and light setting offers an eclectic menu combining British favourites with a twist of European and
Today I used a Gift Voucher for Afternoon Tea for two here. We were very warmly welcomed, offered tea or coffee, and directed to our table. The whole atmosphere was warm and enjoyable. The sandwiches arrived swiftly, crusts removed, neatly cut and well presented. I think there were fifteen substantial sandwiches with six different fillings. My husband and I were both given a cake stand with very tempting cakes and a fruit scone with cream and a small jar of jam.Little things matter, my cafetiére was the size one would normally get for two people, and my husband had a large pot of tea. Staff, including the manager checked that we had everything we needed. We also had the option of a 'doggy bag'.What I particularly appreciated is that Afternoon Tea commences from 12 noon. My husband has diabetes and cannot have 'treats' mid-afternoon, so we were able to substitute this as a meal. Great! For £30 for two of us, this is very good value for money. Excellent food, attentive but not intrusive staff, and a lovely place to visit.

Meals produced and served by catering students in high-quality surroundings at incredible prices
Pre Valentines 'Sparkling' lunch including glass of Prosecco with Raspberry cassis. Selection of dainty freshly baked warm bread rolls to accompany starter. We both opted for the asparagus risotto with truffle oil and mouth wateringly tasty local lakeland lamb for main course. Daintly presented desserts in shape of a sailing ship, followed by choice of tea and various coffees. Students occasionally a tad nervous, but gently encouraged and kindly tutored by Mr Hedley as always, to guide the apprentices in the right direction of provision of warm & friendly hospitality.Bravissimo!!

Levens Kitchen is located in the beautiful grounds of Levens Hall.
We had a lovely walk from Levens Hall preceded by morning coffee. First time we've been to the new cafe and were disappointed by the menu. No toasted teacakes, only sourdough bread. We had lunch after our walk and again very disappointed with the menu. Everything was a bit too 'fancy' for our taste I'm afraid. After a 4 mile walk on a cool blustery rainy day we wanted comfort food - not on this menu! One of the party has IBS and cannot tolerate seeds very well - sadly they were everywhere! In the flapjacks, in the bread accompanying the soup, even sprinkled on top of the soup. Please, please, please, can I make a plea for some good old fashioned plain food! Jacket potato, ham or egg mayonnaise sandwiches, just something plain. It is a lovely menu if you like 'tarted up' food but that's not to everyone's taste. A mix of plain and fancy would suit more people. That said, the service was swift and the staff were very pleasant but I doubt we will return. Thank you for your comments. We understand that any menu is down to personal taste, but there's no getting away from the fact that there is an excellent selection of food to choose from, it is of a very high standard both in terms of quality and presentation, and, if at all possible, we do all that we can to adapt a dish to accommodate any specific dietary requirements ⦠all you have to do is ask the staff, and they will be more than happy to assist you. We do hope that you will visit us again so that you can enjoy some of the fabulous food that we serve.

A small, relaxed, informal European style cafe bar. Serves a fabulous selection of Gins, Cocktails, Platters with continental meats and cheeses and vegetarian specialties, Bombay Street food, locally roasted fine coffee and incredible cakes.
Have visited Slate a few times and staff are helpful and friendly. We have been able to reserve seats on occasions. Friday nights are good for the free nibbles. Unfortunately the toilets let the place down and have mentioned this to the staff. But overall a good bar to visit when in town.

I'd visited the previous incarnation of Corner 124 - Deja Vu - several times. I'd always found it a bit dark and dreary. However the new decor is a winner. We visited for a birthday meal. The menu had a great selection of meals for all kind of appetites. I had the seabass on risotto and my friend had steak. Portions are good and food is piping hot.

Turkish inspired cafe serving hot and cold food, meze, cakes fabulous coffees and teas, wine, beer and soft drinks. Most meals also available for takeaway.
So glad we stopped by for lunch after reading the reviews on here. We received a warm and friendly greeting, in fact all the staff were charming. All the food looked fresh and delicious and we had a hard time deciding what to eat. Eventually we chose the soup of the day and a borek. Huge bowl of soup with excellent sourdough bread. The borek was very tasty too. Coffee and mint tea very good.We will definitely find an excuse to return soon.
