The restaurant was born in 1973 in family, offers a wide range of products made at home like pasta, bread, cakes, vegetables from our garden, fresh meat and fish.In addition we have a cellar with the best wines from all over Italy and the rest of the worl
Five of us had dinner on Saturday evening. The place was busy with many guests. Our waiter was kind and attentive. Dinner started off with crispy bread, then bread basket came with five different kinds of breads inside. They were tasty. Our waiter doggy bagged the breads for us. Three of us had three courses menu chosen from today's selections. I think there were four items for antipasto, first course and second course. I had seafood fantasy, soup with lentil and chestnuts, and wild pork stew dish. My friends had pasta, pumpkin risotto, fritto misto and so on. Then they came with a trolley of desserts. There were many different desserts to choose from. We took tiramisu, marron glacé cream, and chocolate mousse. We liked tiramisu the most. As two others were vegan, they have prepared polenta and fried potatoes for them. They said they were delicious. 25 Euro was a very good deal for three course dinner with dessert.

First I would like to say that we enjoyed the beautiful setting and the most attractive country restaurant itself, part of a stone building just outside the elegant walls of Vitorchiano. Quite often you wait for hours after turning up as we did, for a 2 pm lunch on Saturday, but to my surprise the service was kind, fast and efficient. I would really like to have found a mark for the food at this restaurant that could be considerably more than 'average' and a bit less than very good. A plus for the originality, regional ingredients and choice of dishes on the menu, and a minus for the (hopefully temporary) excess of overcooked or over-used olive oil with minute black specks in it that came with both my polenta and ceps and the meat dish. ( as a small-scale producer of olive oil, I know what it should be like). Apart from this, everything we ate was excellent, slightly unusual, well presented and served, and I would eat there again with pleasure. A last tip: switch the light on in the W.C. before you close the door and are plunged into total darkness!

Osteria Basilico is popular with Italians, but doesn;t attract many foreigners. It is a little off the beaten track, not near any major tourist attractions. We were tipped by our host that this is an excellent restaurant, and he was right. There is an osteria downstairs, and a michelin star restaurant upstairs. This explains the extensive wine list/book. The wine cellar, kitchen and staff are shared. We had a shared starter and our main course were fish and a meat dish called tagliata di manzo, sliced beef steak with rucola and parmesan cheese. Both were dilicious, of excellent quality and nicely presented, We had a nice botle of local wine with it and the service was excellent. A great meal at a resonable price. I will go back if I am in the vicinity.

We were wandering around the old town and decided to have lunch but there are no restaurants in the centro historico--just an old castle, lots of residences in centuries old houses, a novelty shop and a bar. Happened upon Zafferanos as we were returning to our car and our host was in process of closing for the afternoon (2 PM). He graciously stayed open, cooked some wonderfully tasty homemade pasta and gnocchi with a very flavorful tomato sauce and never hurried us while we dined. Great hospitality and even better food. Many thanks!

We've been going here for several years and have never been disappointed. The young chef is an artist who creates amazing and delicious food combinations. It helps if you know Italian but there is now a wait person who speaks English and is very knowledgeable. It's a bit out of the way but well worth the trip.

Dropped in here for lunch after visiting the Sacro Bosco. There was not too much on offer for cealics i.e. gluten free items, but the selection of grilled vegetables (aubergine, pepper and tomatoes) was excellent and nice and warm, so obviously straight from the grill. This together with a cheese selection made and excellent light lunch. As for my 2 dining partners opted for the home made fettucini which they said was excellent. There is a very nice garden with sufficient shade to allow for outdoor eating. Also means plenty of space for children to play and there are a few toys for them as well. There was only one waitress, polite and helpful, but I would assume that on busier occasions there are more. For three people, including a half carafe of house white wine, water and coffee, 42euros which is very inexpensive.
