Schenectady /skəˈnɛktədi/ is a city in Schenectady County, New York, United States, of which it is the county seat. As of the 2010 census, the city had a population of 66,135. The name "Schenectady" is derived from a Mohawk word skahnéhtati meaning "beyond the pines". The city was founded on the south side of the Mohawk River by Dutch colonists in the 17th century, many from the Albany area. They were prohibited from the fur trade by the Albany monopoly, which kept its control after the English takeover in 1664. Residents of the new village developed farms on strip plots along the river. Connected to the west via the Mohawk River and Erie Canal, the city developed rapidly in the 19th century as part of the Mohawk Valley trade, manufacturing and transportation corridor. By 1824 more people worked in manufacturing than agriculture or trade, and the city had a cotton mill, processing cotton from the Deep South. Numerous mills in New York had such ties with the South. Through the 19th century, nationally influential companies and industries developed in Schenectady, including General Electric and American Locomotive Company (ALCO), which were powers into the mid-20th century. The city was part of emerging technologies, with GE collaborating in the production of nuclear-powered submarines and, in the 21st century, working on other forms of renewable energy.

This place has been here for years never failing to serve up their daily specials. Very good on the price and certainly on the portions. Menu is not huge but does not have to be as what they make they are some of the best at making.

You just can't beat their hot dogs with meat sauce. Total awesomeness! Plus excellent service. Onion rings are made from scratch, sliced thin, with just right amount of breading..Not to be missed. Fries are superb, as well. #1 lunch stop in the area

A family run Diner for the last 30+ years. Very well known in the community. Great selection of traditional American style diner food.
I wish Redwood would go back to the hot dogs they served before. The hot dogs they serve now are a lot smaller and do not have the great taste of the previous hot dogs. I will no longer be ordering hot dogs. Their breakfasts are fantastic and so are the dinners they serve. Always have plenty to eat and always have take home containers. Staff is always friendly. Its a great place to eat except for the hot dogs.

I havenât been to tops in years because we were served cold, frozen green beans. Tonight, I got a DoorDash order to give them a shot. Terrible idea. I got the meat loaf and crab cake dinner. It did not come cheap. The meat loaf, which is advertised as one of their specialties; was inedible. It also was not tasty. The meat was old and did not even look like beef. I threw it out. The crab cake was salty and while not as terrible, sub par. We threw the whole meal out, $44. After taxes, service and delivery charges. I may go back for their pies as they never disappoint but I canât understand serving inedible food. I feel sick and wouldnât serve that to my family. I like supporting local businesses over franchises, buying wouldnât be getting dinner again.Hi Ann, What you are describing is 100% unacceptable. We are sorry about the lack of quality that came with your Doordash order. We will look into this to ensure it does not happen again. Please email me directly at [email protected] so we can make this right. If you could mention this Trip Advisor review too that would be helpful. Thank you.
