I visited the South Side Diner on Easter Sunday. The decor was vague but clean and noise level was adequate. The place was very full by 9 AM (lack of competition in the area?). I managed to find a stool at the crowded counter but unfortunately it was placed where the servers get paid and neither they nor the manager said anything to offer another seat that was less inconvenient for any of us. Guess Iâm not a regular. Fortunately, the non-sociable guy next to me finally left so I could scoot over and focus on ordering breakfast without someone trying to cash out over my shoulder. The menu is pretty much standard diner short order fare, no surprises. I did need to amend my order and the business-like waitress was quick to correct the order to the typical eggs, sausage, hash browns and toast meal. It was all okay, nothing remarkable but nothing to complain about. On the upside, service was fast given how crowded it was and the prices and portions are reasonable. Their omelets and other breakfast items, as well as lunch sandwiches, looked promising, but I doubt Iâll go out of my way to go back when there are better and more interesting diner joints for the money in town such as Peteâs, The Sunrise or B & N (or pay a little more and just to go Christoâs)!

Nothing fancy, but consistently good service and quality. Portions good size and prices very good. Stays pretty busy. No dinner service.
I have driven by this restaurant almost daily for a decade. Today 2 coworkers and I went for lunch. The selection was huge, food was all excellent and our waitress was the best server I have had in a longtime. I had the breaded tenderloin- it is pressed in house and was huge. They also had about 6 pies to choose from, which I was very excited about but I couldnât even finish the sandwich. I guess Iâll try the pie the next time!

Food was very good, service was very good, and loved the retro atmosphere. Seating seemed plentiful and accommodating. I would definitely go again. I had the veggie Omlettes and pete's potatoes. Very delicious!!! Loved how they were very close to the farmers market also.

This is a local place, not a chain, right off busy street w/lots of nearby competition of big chains I-hop, Dennys, Bob Evans, Cracker barrel, etc. Hubby knew of it from working in this area. Portions are just right, didn't find that large, but enough. Very clean, small, quick service. Good value for portion size. Waitress could be friendlier. Seemed like they all catered to locals, which we are not. She was nice and efficient, just not friendly. Pay up at cash register. Clean restrooms. Food served quickly. Breakfast casserole w/sausage, green pepper, onion, cheese and of course egg was tasty. Could use more sausage. Was nice cuz came w/coffee and I didn't drink coffee but she gave my husband's free. He had omelet which he enjoyed. Id go again when in town.

We stopped in for an early dinner, and enjoyed the experience. The diner has an old-school, small town atmosphere; with movie poster memoribilia on the walls. The facility is somewhat intimate in size, and is fairly well-maintained (bathrooms were clean, but could use a little sprucing up).Our server was friendly and attentive. The patrons seemed mainly to be locals, several of whom knowing each other (often a good sign, for a small diner in a town with loads of choices). We tried the largest tenderloin, which was plentiful and quite tasty (certainly enough to share, or take home for a 2nd meal). We also had the chopped steak, smothered with onions and mushrooms. It too was very good. The prices are reasonable (a note: it is cash only, adding to the old-school tradition). We certainly want to return and try there breakfast offerings (available all day). The ones we saw being served, looked very tempting. If one is craving comfort food, at a reasonable price; this place is a solid option.

The 1st Drive-In in Indiana! Serving delicious burgers & the best root beer! Breakfast all-day! Featured on The Food Network "Diners, Drive-Ins & Dives!"
Boilermaker or not, the Triple XXX should be on every foodies bucket list. The burgers are a tasty throwback to when burgers tasted like burgers and not soybeans. The "fanciest" (or weirdest) it gets is the peanut butter topped Duane Purvis All American burger. And root beer...If you LOVE real cream, natural deep flavored root beer, the Triple XXX offering is excellent. If for no other reason, you have never been to a college town, after the party at 2:00 am, I got the munchies eating establishment, Triple XXX is worth the trip. It's fun, nostalgic and you ought to visit it at least once.
