40K of cross-country ski trails through rolling fields and forests on a working 500 acre dairy farm. Trails groomed for classic and skate technique skiing. Ski lodge with large sunroom, wood stove, and self serve snacks and hot drinks. Full service ski shop with rentals, repairs, and sales. Lessons by appointment. Carter's is a family-run cross country ski, snowshoe, and fat biking center nestled in the scenic hills and fields of Bethel, Maine. In addition to offering affordable fat bike, ski, and snowshoe rentals for all sizes, ages, and ability levels, we also sell a wide selection of new winter sportswear, snowshoes, and ski packages to meet any skier's needs - be it backcountry, racing, or touring. Welcome to the Carter family's hidden gem in the lovely lil' mtn. town of Bethel, Maine. Located in the Oxford foothills of the NH Presidential range, just 15 mins from Sunday River Ski Resort, an hour from Bates College in Lewiston and 90 mins from Portland. If it's outdoor fun (& exercise), you're looking for, then this is the place! They really do offer "something for everyone", including Discounted Senior Passes AND Doggie Day Passes. You can rent or bring your own equipment and hop onto their nicely groomed or bk. country paths for multi-use X-Ctry Skiing, Snow Shoeing, Sleds & Fat Bikes. They offer all levels & types of well marked trails. Just pick up a map in the cozy ski lodge (there's a restroom & retail shop), and get all your questions and needs fulfilled by this knowledgeable and friendly family crew of outdoor enthusiasts!

Definitely worth visiting these great trails for xc skiing and snowshoeing. Beautifully designed, with great volunteers and snowmaking to ensure reliable skiing all winter. A nice mix of gentle and challenging terrain, and close to both downtown Waterville, Maine and I-95.

Lost Valley

Lost Valley is Maine's Learn to Ski & Snowboard Area. Open Year round for Food Drinks and Fun and home to Lost Valley Brewing Co. Perfect for families of all generations. In the winter, Lost Valley Ski Area has trails of all abilities, a huge learning program, race training and events, a learning area with magic carpet, Terrain Park and base lodge with wifi, concessions, arcade, dining area and bar. Lost Valley also has snow tubing at The Maine Family Snow Tube Park, Snow Shoe & Cross Country Ski Trails, Fat Bike Trail Access and is accessible by Snowmobile via the local Auburn trail system.

Hubby had never skied before so he took a one hour lesson from Mike. He had a blast and learned so much! He’s ready to go back! Mike and the rest of the staff were very friendly, as were the customers we met, as well. This place is friendly, comfortable, and a lot of fun!

New England Outdoor Center Cross Country Skiing

The New England Outdoor Center is consistently expanding and building on-site, world class Nordic ski trails. The original 10 kilometer trail system was designed by preeminent designer and Olympian John Morton. The terrain, featuring views of Black Cat Mountain is a mix of exhilarating down-hills, invigorating up-hills and everything in between. Be sure to pick up a trail map and check-in with the front desk before heading out on the trails.
