Kalaripayattu - The oldest of martial arts-is a gift to the modern world and known as the mother of all martial arts. legend traces the 3000-year old art form to sage Parasurama-the master of all martial art forms and credited to be the re-claimer of Kerala from the Arabian Sea. Kalaripayattu originated in ancient south India. At Kadathanadan Kalari Centre ,Thekkady, this martial art is performed in kuzhikalari.A highly designed gallery has been built in such a way that the viewers will get a clear vision from a safer distance. KALARI DAILY SHOW : 6 pm to 7 pm KATHAKALI - is one of the oldest theater forms in the world. It originated in the area of southwestern India now known as the state of Kerala. Kathakali is a group presentation, in which dancers take various roles in performances traditionally based on themes from Hindu mythology, especially the two epics, the Ramayana and the Mahabharata. DAILY SHOW TIME - 5.pm to 6.pm & 7pm to 8.pm

The Martial Arts show is unique to Kerala and the show at the Punarjani is wonderful. The Master is Mr. Unni Gurukal, who does an extraordinary job with his team. The fire show is truly exceptional

I attended the show over a period of two days.First day I attended the Kathakali performance which was very good. The facial expressions of the dancer personifying the female character was top-notch.The latter part of the performance the commentary was in Malayali so it was difficult to understand thus turned a bit boring for people who couldn't understand what was going on.But overall if you understand dance, you'll enjoy the performance thoroughly. The next day we went for the Kalariyapattu performance. It was excellent!!!!!Highly recommend this show because you'll just admire the flexibility and agility of the performers because they are so good at what they are doing. They also call for members from the audience as part of the performance where one person can even jump over 6 people! The last part of the show was an act with fire which though dangerous,is worth every penny. If you travel to Munnar even if for one day please pay this place a visit.Though it may seem dilapidated from outside but don't judge the book by its cover. You'll definitely have a good time.

periyar cultural centre Anavachal Road, Thekkady every evening programs at 6pm kalarippayattu and 5pm and 7PM Kathakali
The traditional fight style kalaari is a must watch show when you are in Kerala. And this place offers one of the best performances of the artform. Youngsters performing a traditional art that inspired most of the martial fighting forms around the world was most satisfying moment of the trip. Your Thekkady visit is not complete without attending this performance.
