Excellent coffee, wonderful cakes, snacks etc. Aldo, the owner, is a specialist in chocolate and uses only the best ingredients. He produces various flavoured liqueurs too. We ordered arancini and cannoli to bring back to england yesterday, they were freshly prepared in the morning, still hot when we collected them. great service and lovely staff. all very helpful and friendly. Definitely recommend this place.

On a 3 week visit to Modica, Sicily in April, we visited the city's glorious cathedral, San Giorgio, many times. Sitting atop a magnificent set of 273 stairs off the Corso, we climbed the steps to the wonderful Cafe Duomo at the top of the stairs, and noticed a lovely outdoor cafe, but it was never open. We waited patiently, and on the day before Easter, we noticed it was open at last. It was worth the wait! Though we heard that the menu expands when it reopens in May, we found many dishes to our liking. On our first visit we had an exceptional and bountiful antipasta platter of local cheeses and meats (our favorite a pecorino infused with saffron), served with the best bread we had during our stay. Delicious toasts followed. It all went well with local beers. We returned the next day, Easter Sunday. Our meal was even more outstanding: excellent salads and crudités with dip, the tastiest and most unusual pizza we have had, again with beers. The setting is so pleasant; you feel you are in a lovely garden with knock-your-socks-off views. The host--Vittorio--was so welcoming and generous. The entire experience was one of many highlights during our stay in Modica. We hope to find it open on our next visit so we can enjoy more meals in this remarkable setting.

Martin Cafè, for 15 years in the heart of the baroque the ideal place to taste the CAFFE 'in various types (syphone, mocha, filter, Chemex) and, of course, and especially expressed with numerous and tempting variants including specialties with spices, cho
What else one can appreciate more than a master of his trade at the right place.I spent only few hours in Modica on my whole-day trip to Etna. But t was enough to sense special island-culture of Sicily and the spirit of people here. Not ingatiating toward tourists, but polite and friendly.I went in Martin Cafe for "some italian sweet drink and a cappuccino", as I told the bartender who was probably the owner, I got a glass of fine Muscat wine.Cozy place.

It's always great fun to sit outside a Sicilian bar in the morning and watch the people go by. I particularly mean the kind of place that's frequented by local people. Bar Sicilia has that neighborhood kind of feel even though it's on the main drag in the city. I had the Sicilian breakfast of champions there -- granita on a brioche. The lady behind the counter pleasantly fussed over me because I wanted to sit outside even though it had recently rained. She made sure my spot was dry. When I returned another morning for coffee and a cornetto, she remembered me and asked about my travel plans, while remaining uncritical of my imperfect Italian. This is the kind of friendly place I'd be frequenting if I lived nearby.

Modica is renowned for its chocolate, made cold process and unconched like the Aztecs used to. A myriad of producers exist in modica, most making poor chocolate from bulk cocoa mass. Simone buys top-quality beans himself from Ecuador, makes his own cocoa mass and uses traditional process to make brilliant flavoured bars and napoleons. Go to his beautiful shop - there you can buy ethically, a truly unique and delicious product. The staff are friendly and smiling - making so many people happy, who wouldnât be?

We wanted something typical and fresh for lunch and Piccolo Bar did not disappoint. We were made so welcome by Angelo and his wife. We had the most delicious sciacciata combined with friendly conversation, and an invitation to visit the kitchen and see the next batch of chicken and potato pies being rolled out by hand. Then the free taste and the free good humoured Modican dialect lesson. It's an honest example of hospitality and good eating.
