Part of Belgian history. Shows how the "westhoeck" fight off Germans in WW1. Belgian bravery and genius of king Albert. Bilingual display dutch / English. The museum is located in the townhall where king Albert ruled his army during WW1. Impressive premises. You can still feel the mood of time gone by.

Bakery Museum

The Bakery Museum of Furnes houses the most important collection of bakery heritage in Belgium. Through numerous activities, demonstrations and workshops, visitors can get a (litteral!) taste of how bread used to be made back in the day. The museum is located in a restored farmhouse, the 'Zuidgasthoeve' and breathes tradition and history. The permanent collection hosts a unique ensemble of objects related to sugar, ice, chocolate, waffle and speculoos production. In the barn a collection of historic tools illustrates the process from grain to bread. Insider tip: Don't skip the museum's cafe and it's sunny terrace with playground for children. Daily fresh pastries, a cup of coffee or a local beer will make your day complete.
