Visiting the temple & it’s surroundings at sunrise was incredibly peaceful & tranquil. No crowds, nature at its best & seeing the monks preparing for Alms was very special. Reading the Buddhist signs along the path was meaningful. The 500 steps weren’t challenging early in the morning, including my husband helping carry supplies up as signage requests. A beautiful part of the world.

We did a lne day hike up the mountain which was absolutely wonderful. A misty and mystic mood eith a mix of slight rain, mist, clouds and sunshine. On top you can enjoy a great view. After the hike, we enjoyed climbing the waterfall and relaxing in the hot springs. A very nice nstional park.

Doi Chiang Dao is the only true mountain range in Thailand. Even if it is "only" the 3rd highest one, it is the only one that have real peaks and cliffs. The 2 highest points in Thailand (Doi Inthanon and Doi Phahompok) are only big hills. There are roads going to the top. This is not the case with Doi Chiang Dao, it's true mountain there. It explains why it's difficult to go there and why it's less busy. This is the reason as well why it used to be the favorite place of real trekking lovers. Unfortunately these last years it has been more and more complicated to explore the moutains there. The National Park has limited the entry to 4 months in the year then has closed the entry to the summit. It is now impossible to go to the highest point and inside the wildlife sanctuary. It's a shame because it's a stunning area. Hopefully there are other trails around that few people and only one agency knows. I recommend to go there with them if you really want to discover Chiang Dao.

Spectacular place - temple within the cave. In addition you Can hire a guide (200bahts) and rent a gas lamp (additional 200bahts) to see the cave. If you are not physically capable or you have claustrophobia , you may have problems with going through 3 narrow tunels.

So happy to come across this place. Plenty going on to keep you occupied, pool table, darts and many board games. The food was AMAZING (veggie friendly). The best part for me was the owner Buppha who made us feel very welcomed and gave some good tips on where to visit whilst here. Highly recommended ????????

Chiang Dao also offers a number of activities. In addition to the famous caves there are two different hot springs, a beautiful temple you can hike up to, a much larger hike up the limestone mountain, a Tuesday market, an animal sanctuary, and great roads to get lost on.
