Bitola (Macedonian: Битола [ˈbitɔɫa] ( listen) known also by several alternative names) is a city in the southwestern part of the Republic of Macedonia. It is located in the southern part of the Pelagonia valley, surrounded by the Baba, Nidže and Kajmakčalan mountain ranges, 14 kilometres (9 miles) north of the Medžitlija-Níki border crossing with Greece. Heraclea

Although the famous mosaics of Heraclea Lyncestis are covered during the wintertime, this important archeological site is definitely a must see in this part of Macedonia. An important historical and archeological site dating from the peak of Hellenistic period, the Heraclea will offer you an in-depth insight into the life and architecture of that period, which may not be found in such a good shape in this part of the Balkans. I've visited this place for the second time and I didn't regret it at all, since it offers a wonderful opportunity to visit a revival of ancient times, although in the form of remains of an old and important historical site. All in all, Heraclea is totally worth a visit, especially if you're exploring the beautiful city of Bitola!

Shirok Sokak Street

Reviewed By IgorMarkovic - Smederevo, Serbia

Bitola's main pedestrian zone, usually know as Širok sokak, is probably one of the most beutiful walking areas in this part of the Balkans, in Macedonia for sure. It is known for architecturally and aesthetically beautiful buildings and numerous honorary consulates. It is a vibrant part of the city which combines both the traditional architecture with modern facilities. It is full of caffees, restaurants, but also museums and interesting oldfashioned workshops. All in all, take a slow walk and enjoy its beauty, you won't regret it. All recommendations!
