Quebrada las Gachas

The plan to commute by bus from Villa de Leyva to Barichara (6hours) was changed when we got an offer from Nomada Movimiento Inteligente to consider sightseeing off the beaten path on the way to Barichara . The tour took us 11 hours We were on a nice minivan with stops at Las doses the Angeles- the Guadalupe Cathedral and a Colombian lunch and the highlight The natural Jacuzzis of Las Gachas. A lot of natural pools! We were by ourselves in the area as it’s not touristy but more popular only with the locals. Compared to the Caño Crystalla.. You trek 20 min one way and 40 round trip passing by hills rivers, cows a few gates -(it’s tight so if your body is not slim, you have to squeeze yourself or climb the gate! ). You pay a very minimal fee to the locals. Watch out for hormones. - ants .. they love on the area. The River has countless natural holes. You can slide as the algae makes it slippery. Our guide Santiago and Nataly advises is to wear socks to prevent slipping. They also provided sunblock and towel even snacks coffee and muffins. Very personalized. The trip ended with Nomada.mi dropping us at our hotel in Barichara. Indeed an great experience to see this place with the comfort of your own vehicle and direct drop off to Barichara for a very reasonable price of $100 for 2 people .

Balneario Pescaderito

We weren’t originally going to come here because there are swimming options closer to San Gil. However with low water levels at some of those, we decided to make the effort and we’re so glad we did! It’s very easy to get to Curiti from San Gil, one bus from the smaller terminal in the centre of town. Then there is another bus from Curiti to the pools themselves (every 30 mins give or take) I wouldn’t recommend walking as it is quite far & hilly. We checked out all the pools, they differ in depth and some of them even have natural slides for kids. There’s a place to hire tubes, toilets & a restaurant all at the bottom where the bus drops you. We went on a Sunday which is supposed to be the busiest day but with all the different areas to chose from, it didn’t feel crowded at all. Don’t miss this- we didn’t want to leave!
