Lake Opeongo

Beautiful, scenic views from many backcountry sites. This is a must see for any camping lover. Ideally, to get away from traffic and other campers you might try a more backcountry lake than Opeongo. It tends to have many taxis and other campers around, but not enough to really make it feel less like camping. Beware of a slight wind on Opeongo - it could make your Sunday paddle back to access point a VERY daunting and difficult one.

Western Uplands Backpacking Trail

Reviewed By victorcyho - Toronto, Canada

Went for a 2 Night Trip out to Maggie Lake to relax. The Distance is close enough for newer hikers, and also close that you can carry extra gear and amenities to enjoy your nights here. When the weather is clear and cool, the walk in is very easy. Start with some frozen bottles of water when you get in, that way you have a cool drink during your first day. Snacks and lunch is a must. Wraps or bread are a good choice. During August, the water is still cool enough to swim, so bring some swim wear, beware of the leeches though, so stay moving when you are in the water!
