Things to do in Temple
The BBQ scene is crowded in the Temple/Belton area, and what makes it harder is they're all pretty good. Texans Grill and BBQ is a relatively new entrant into the scene, but they're quickly making a name for themselves. The brisket is excellent. Full of smoke flavor, great smoke ring, moist, not too fatty. The ribs I had were a little tough. They carry that same nice smoke flavor, but didn't fall off the bone as easily as I would have liked. The burgers are great. Get the jalapeno and cheese. Great taste, just enough grease, not dry. Whether you live in town, or you're just passing through (this restaurant is very close to I-35), you should give Texans a try.
Mungia's is a wonderful place to hang out and eat family style BBQ, The environment is inviting, food is mid-of-the-road for Texas BBQ, but their Ribs are exceptionally well done. We enjoy spending the evening eating, drinking, and listening to the occasional live act.Definitely a recommended place to go from time to time.

Al's is a great little lunch spot in Temple. It's been around forever and consistently serves good BBQ and Hamburgers. Their Catfish is excellent and should be on everyone's Friday eating out list at some point. Recommended for a nice lunch without a huge crowd. The ladies who run it are great, old school ladies who are just friendly and eager to make your lunch experience good.

Best Quality Meats is located right off Interstate 35 in Temple heading south. Under construction, exits are always changing so make sure you check which exit to take. Their sausage is great. The brisket is decent, but lacking in smoke flavor. If it's cold outside, there's a good chance they have chili. Don't miss it! Their chili is excellent.

Not only did we get a couple of samples: Teriyaki BBQ chicken and chicken gumbo...excellent. We ordered BBQ chicken and pulled pork sandwich, 3 sides, which were cucumber salad, red beans and rice and potato salad( all were very good). The owner waited on us, she was happy and very knowledgeable about her BBQ.Not to be missed! Probably the best chicken BBQ in Texas!

Decent BBQ but smaller portions than many BBQ locations in the big state of Texas. Wife loved the okra and brisket. The jalapeno/cheese sausage is a bit of a gamble. Might be spicy or might be mild. Servers were focused on large groups, and I understand that's an issue.
