Muskegon Food Guide: 10 Must-Eat Restaurants & Street Food Stalls in Muskegon

We have eaten here several times over the years although I don't believe I have previously reviewed them. Most times I would give them a strong three stars to a mid four stars. I remember having an evening dinner shortly before Christmas here in December 2016 with my in-laws and would have given them a four. Then we had a nice quiet evening with descent food and a pretty good waitress as far as service. For that visit I remember I would not have given a perfect rating because I am unable to say that their food ever deserves perfect ratings but more importantly the waitress pushed us to use the table top machine to pay. We tried to tell her we didn't want to do that but she was pushy. Now, let me get back to our recent visit in December 2017. We stopped in for lunch on a Saturday soon after they opened so they were not too busy. I asked for a booth near a window if possible and without kids sitting behind either of us; you know about the kicking banging and standing up that can happen. After a few minutes our waitress cam over and took our drink order. A few minutes later she returned and took our meal order. We waited and waited and waited. She kept coming by saying she was sorry, the kitchen was having issues. We had noticed about half way through our wait that someone came in (a man about mid 30s) and proceeded directly to the kitchen. I can understand unexpected things can happen like employees running late or call offs. But we waited more. Finally our food came and the first thing I noticed was my dish was covered with cilantro which was what I specifically told them I did not want. I immediately said something to the waitress who confirmed she had told them no cilantro. We had somewhere to be so I was unable to have it corrected or reorder something else so I picked off my husband's plate and they did not charge me for it. But it did not end there. While we are now trying to share a meal that had pasta the same hostess that seated us brought a man, woman and three girls between the ages of perhaps 3 and 6 and sat them directly behind, guess who? Not even my husband but me! All I could do was sit in shock. Our waitress came by and we immediately asked for a check and just left the money on the table. We did not punish her regarding a tip.The last thing I want to say is that I do not believe we have ever experienced a restroom anywhere in our lives that smelled as bad as the men's restroom at this restaurant last month. The smell oozed out into that side of the restaurant. It was awful and they really need to figure something out with ventilation and need employees to constantly check and learn how to mop the bathroom floor.
We had heard these restaurants being advertised and decided...why not when we found ourselves near one. So glad we did. People in line were talking about how friends of theirs had suggested they go. Our food was hot, good and as all good bbq should be juicy and tender. Only down side is the food is so very good that they had run out of several items.

The family had been hankering to try this new place for a while, so we stopped in. We got the nachos, four meats, four sides, and really enjoyed the meal. We tried the brisket, pulled pork, chicken "things" and ribs. All of the meat had good flavor, but, I agree with other reviews it was over-smoked and a bit dry.The offered sauces were all good, and we like a bit of sauce, so that solved that.Sides we tried were tots, cole slaw, butter beans, and cornbread. The corn bread is very good, as are the butter beans. The butter beans were some of the best beans I've ever had. The tots were good, the cole slaw was meh. We enjoyed the spicy pickles as well.Overall, I found the prices good and a great value, so we will return. I hope they are able to solve the dry meat woes. Thanks so much, Matthew! We can't wait for you to come back so we can do our best to make this 4 star review into 5 stars! :)
Where to eat Pub food in Muskegon: The Best Restaurants and Bars

We live in the area and have grown up on US 31 Bar-B-Q. It is still held by the original family and they are still using the same family recipe. The restaurant is about to be handed off to the next family generation. The food is very good! This is not your usual southern BQ, so be aware before you visit. The menu is limited and seating is not for a large group. Try not to go around popular lunch and dinner times and you should do just fine.

We are temporarily closed until next spring, but we encourage you to go and visit our sister venues, Pints & Quarts and Next Door.
The location was awesome but there were so many problems. The band was too loud, the silverware was dirty. The silverware they brought out afterwards with dirty. The glass is the proper dirty, so were the replacement glasses. Food was mediocre at best and they didnât have any beers on tap. This would be such a hotspot if they could fix some really basic things. Weâve never had shredded cheese show up in a glass. Lol. Thank you for your feedback. We are disappointed that we did not meet yours or our own expectations. We are always putting a focus on ensuring that everything is clean for our customers. We appreciate you stopping in, and we hope that you will give us another try next Spring to change your mind.
