North Berwick (/nɔːrθ ˈbɛrɪk/; Scottish Gaelic: Bearaig a Tuath) is a seaside town and former royal burgh in East Lothian, Scotland. It is situated on the south shore of the Firth of Forth, approximately 25 miles (40 km) north-east of Edinburgh. North Berwick became a fashionable holiday resort in the nineteenth century because of its two sandy bays, the East (or Milsey) Bay and the West Bay, and continues to attract holidaymakers. Golf courses at the ends of each bay are open to visitors.

Like most Macdonald hotels this offers a wee bit luxury. It is situated next to the golf course over looking the see.The links bar & lounges are very relaxing over looking the see. The menu is not extensive but covers most everyday food. You can also order afternoon tea with a wee glass of bubbly, which is very nice. Love this hotel

The room was cosy, comfortable and well maintained... The staff were friendly and the on-site car park added to the convenience. We didnt eat here so can't comment, but would definitely recommend the accommodation as it was good value for the 49 pounds we paid, in a nice central location. Pin below was quite noisy but this was only to be expected on a Saturday night! It's not luxury but is a good choice if you want an affordable visit to North Berwick

The service from entering till leaving was excellent as was the food and at great prices. The price of drinks was also the cheapest in town. Glad we decided to try it out. Food is only served at lunchtime which is a shame as the quality would have seen us eating again in the evening.

After a lovely walk from Yellowcraigs beach with our well behaved clean Westie dog (on a lead) we approached this hotel for a cup of tea and bite to eat. After carefully checking the information displayed outside advising that dogs were welcome in the beer garden, we entered. We checked once again with the bar staff that we could bring the dog in and were advised that we could as long as we sat in the beer garden, which we were happy to do as it was a nice sunny afternoon. As the bar staff turned to retrieve menus from behind the bar we were approached brusquely by a rather intimidating aggressive man, whom we assumed to be the manager and who said âyouâll have to take the dog to the gardenâ We replied that we understood and were just waiting for a menu from the bar staff. This would have been glaringly obvious already as the bar was empty and he was sat approximately 6 feet away when we first entered and had the initial conversation with the bar staff. He then responded aggressively saying âno, you have to go now, okay?â By this point it became very clear that we were not welcome whatsoever in this empty bar and to be honest his manner was extremely intimidating. I have often seen negative reviews on trip advisor regarding staff attitude etc in other establishments and must admit Iâve been incredulous that any customer service staff could be as rude as described in these reviews but in this case this is exactly what happened. We left and made our way a few metres up the road and had a delicious afternoon tea at the aptly named Welcome Arms Hotel. Please do not waste your time and give the Castle Inn Bar and Bistro a miss any time you are in Dirleton.

"The same food , the same service, the same happiness" This is at the heart of everything we do at the Nether Abbey. Whether you sit in our cool contemporary bar , the conservatory, the top restaurant or the Music room this is our simple philosophy. We ar
Our last visit was poor so a few months later we all decided to give it a go again. Soo disappointed ... firstly the service was really slow , even for the drinks to arrive. The waitress I felt was abrubt & there seemed to be no one in charge of the team of servers. We asked for the air con to be turned down & halfway through our meal a waitress opened a door wide onto the outdoor seating area & never even asked us if that was ok. & it was a blast from the past as the weather had got colder in the evenings. Two chose breaded fish & chips peas the only thing that was well cooked were the chips! The fish was dry & had been waiting to be served up! Another portion was the sea bream not a very appetising presentation & like the other portions it was dried out & not good. My portion was lamb shank , it had also been waiting to be served up rather dried out , a small serving of mash & one piece of kale & 2 bits of deep fried veg soo poor not fresh just dried up & very unappetising. We also ordered coffee & teas & we had a square of a chocolat crunch but we have decided we will not return it was a complete waste of money & time! Come on manager get it sorted out ! Dear 101RJM,Thank you for your detailed review and observations about your return trip to The Nether Abbey - we are sorry you had a disappointimg experience. As you will appreciate, we serve many customers, and by far the majority of them are pleased with the food and service, endorsed by their repeat custom. On that basis, we are always concerned when an experience at The Nether Abbey falls short. We will review your comments at our forthcoming weekly staff meeting - and again, we appreciate you bringing this to our attention. Kind regards,The Nether Abbey Team.

Nice restaurant in the centre of North Berwick. Good breakfast selection at very reasonable prices. Only down side on this visit was that there wasn't enough milk to go with the coffee and we had to ask twice for some more. Obviously hasn't put us off as we're going back with some other friends in a couple of days!
