A hut, nicely situated; I walked to it several times and ate well enough there. Typical stick-to-your-ribs alpine food. I'd be happy to see it on any hike, but it's really what one should expect from Tyrol. They don't do these things badly.

We had planned to stop here towards the end of a walk in the area - in itself, a recommended excursion, especially around Riessersee - with very little idea of what to expect, other than it is an Alm. Eventually we emerged out of the wood and came across the alm in a little clearing. We were quite surprised how big the restaurant is and, considering it was a sunny Sunday in June, how quiet it was. This certainly was not due to the food or the prices. We were presented with an extensive menu - the waitress realising we were talking English amongst ourselves, offered us English menus and even offered to try to speak English, although was patently relieved when we said we could talk in German! The prices were also reasonable, especially for the quality of the food. One of my companions was especially tempted by the choice of three different trout dishes on the menu. We ate on the large terrace outside the alm. There is a small pond there with,on clear days, a view to the mountain Waxensteine - not as spectacular as the one you get from Riessersee, however, still very atmospheric. The waitresses were polite and timely (although admittedly they didn´t have so many covers to serve). The food was very very tasty and much appreciated after our walk. I have already recommended it, and it was only yesterday that we were there!Inside, we noticed an enormous stove and there seems to be a very large dining area. I imagine that the ambience is very different in winter, however, I imagine it is equally pleasant. The whole place seemed particularly clean. I am sure it must get really busy on occasions, in order to need to be so big; their website say they can seat up to 250 people. I fully intend to revisit. It took us about 30 minutes to walk back to Garmisch centre from there, so it would actually make quite a pleasant excursion - combined with the see - in itself.

We booked for a large group, over 50 people. Although the place is nice and food is simply correct, our experience was not good at all.Very unpolite on the phone when asked to change the chosen menu in advance. One there, they wanted to sit 10 people in a table where even 8 were quite tight. Eventually we got to join another tble. Then, when first courses came, they have them to us wrongly not according to the menu each one asked, assigning soups without criteria..Time to pay: 8⬠for a cup of wine, a common one, nothing special. Didn't want to accept cards because it was too much working. For children the one course chosen dish was between 5.50 and 7.50 but they brought water, some juice and a little glass with vainilla ice cream. In total they asked 16⬠per child...All the time, the maitre complaining, and crossed.... It was a mess. We won't go back again. Many other places around with warm professional service.
We were amazed to find this lovely setting with a deck overlooking a steep drop into the forest floor 100m below. It doubles as the collection point for the 5 euro fee to enter the Hollental Gorge, but also has a limited selection of food, coffee and cakes. We had tea and a delicious apple cake. The best part was the lovely small deck overlooking the steep view into the valley around. A great end to our day of hiking from up at AlpspiX down to Hammersbasch.

In a recent stay in Ehrwald we were recommended this restaurant for dinner. It was a fine evening so we were able to sit outside. The service was excellent as was the fare. In short a memorable experience and we can only but endorse the recommendation.

I was so excited to spend a night at this newly renovated mountain hutte which sits at 1387m, between the top of the Hollental Gorge and the Alpspitz/Kreuzeck areas. By far the easiest process I have seen for making a reservation with their online system! No doubt the hutte, although I'm not sure that word accurately describes this new structure, is huge with 106 sleeping places. It's very modern design is accentuated by light woods, concrete and very orange bathroom fixtures. They have paid respect to the original hut by framing some of its original signage and encorporating a few original hand painted beams. The "check-in" process is done at the reception window where you will pay and be assigned a room. Next, you will be escorted to your room - either a 6 person shared room or a 23 person dormitories, depending what you reserved. A nice feature offered are the half or full pension plans, featuring a 3 course dinner, breakfast and a packed lunch (Halbpension Zugspitze).Great: rooms, huge windows to enjoy the views, drying rooms and shoe room. Not great: No wifi or Internet connection inside , wall outlets are very sparse and hard to locate, not a cozy atmosphere.
