Things to do in Barcaldine
Barcaldine is a long way from almost everywhere. It's good a few small points of celebrity, but gourmet food would hardly be amongst them.Em's is hidden away in one of Barcaldine's older hotels: The Shakespeare. It serves up a menu that looks pretty unassuming; 300g rump steak, rib eye steak, chicken parmigiana, typical Aussie pub food at first glance. A standard children's menu including fish and chips, sausages and other kiddy staples is included. When you notice the lamb shanks and lamb ragu however you realise that maybe this isn't quite your basic Aussie pub menu. The staff are friendly without being obtrusive, they are helpful and welcoming. The standard looking menu items are handled with impressive finesse and delicacy. Typically for the Aussie pub meal you chose your meat and get asked: salad or veggies and you expect some slivers of carrot a beetroot and tomato slice on a base of iceberg lettuce or some over boiled greens accompanied by dried out boiled potatoes. What you get is a delicious mixed leaf salad with a delicate dressing, sweet cherry tomatoes, shavings of assorted veggies and some herbs or a delicious potato bake, oven baked pumpkin with the skin on and zucchini grilled with a hint of Parmesan. Delicious. We half joked about delaying our departure tomorrow for a few hours to dine here again (even though it might make for a long night time drive on lonely outback roads), it was only half in jest. I'll be back.
Where to eat Italian food in Kwinana: The Best Restaurants and Bars
During our stay at Barcaldine, we dined twice at Witches Kitchen. The staff are friendly. Both meals were well prepared, just make sure you're not in a hurry. The chicken parmageana is very tasty and a classic pub meal. Vegetables are a better option than the salad selection.

I chose rib fillet special with a red wine and bacon topping. Ordered rare and arrived almost that way. A good tasty meal.Companion ordered Grilled Barra with a creamy garlic sauce. Enjoyed it. Good rangebof beers and house wine quite quaffable. Brown Brothers.Service friendly and efficient. They were under a bit of pressure because of unexpected walk ins like ourselves plus a heap of room service orders but handled it well. Gave the impression of good and reliable. Will not disappoint.

This is a nice clean air-conditioned coffee shop in the heart of Barcaldine. It also has an attractive selection of arts, crafts and home-made jams etc. If you like talking with the locals (and who doesn't ) and she's not too busy, the proprietor (Mandy?) is not averse to pulling up a chair for a conversation. It's an impressive little establishment, enhanced by good old western hospitality, as if Mandy has invited friends around. A very pleasant experience.

The mixed grill I have been fantasising about for the last 1,100km... a mixed grill so epic, it needs 3 plates... Rump steak, two lamb cutlets, two rashers of bacon, 2 sausages and 2 eggs... This is the Noah's Ark of meals. This was not on the menu, but the good man on the tools at the Ironbark Inn, Barcaldine, was more than happy to whip it up for me... I nominate Colin for Queenslander of the Year.

Arrived on Anzac Day and everything in Town was closed except Ridgee Didgee. I wasn't expecting much but got a very pleasant surprise. Food was delish and huge servings (BLT highly recommended) and coffee was first class. The kitchen was busy but we didn't have to wait long and service was with a smile. Friend had the Nachos which was also delish.

We offer a range of hand stretched gourmet woodfired pizza's and dessert pizza's, made from quality fresh ingredients.
An excellent evening spent at the Lounging Emu, the atmosphere is bright, comfortable and very friendly. The wood fired pizzas were outstanding and everything that I had been told to expect. The bases were light and crispy, there was an outstanding amount of filling, all very fresh, right down to the special Italian cheese to top it off. There is a comprehensive list of pizzas available to choose from and if you can't decide which ones to have, then Graham was quite happy to split the pizza, so you get the next of both worlds. Not only are the pizzas special, just try the garlic pizza bread, best I have ever tasted. We took in a bottle of wine and had a great evening chatting to fellow travellers and exchanging experiences. When Graham isn't busy, he is happy to chat and pass on valuable information regarding the area and all that it offers. The fact that he has a lot of local people calling regularly, sometimes for take away, speaks volumes for the value you get for your money. If you are stopping over in Barcaldine, then you won't find a better place to eat!
