Reviews on Asian food in Schenectady, New York, United States. Schenectady /skəˈnɛktədi/ is a city in Schenectady County, New York, United States, of which it is the county seat. As of the 2010 census, the city had a population of 66,135. The name "Schenectady" is derived from a Mohawk word skahnéhtati meaning "beyond the pines". The city was founded on the south side of the Mohawk River by Dutch colonists in the 17th century, many from the Albany area. They were prohibited from the fur trade by the Albany monopoly, which kept its control after the English takeover in 1664. Residents of the new village developed farms on strip plots along the river. Connected to the west via the Mohawk River and Erie Canal, the city developed rapidly in the 19th century as part of the Mohawk Valley trade, manufacturing and transportation corridor. By 1824 more people worked in manufacturing than agriculture or trade, and the city had a cotton mill, processing cotton from the Deep South. Numerous mills in New York had such ties with the South. Through the 19th century, nationally influential companies and industries developed in Schenectady, including General Electric and American Locomotive Company (ALCO), which were powers into the mid-20th century. The city was part of emerging technologies, with GE collaborating in the production of nuclear-powered submarines and, in the 21st century, working on other forms of renewable energy.

Sake Bon has 2 locations, this one in Schenectady & one in Clifton Park. After seeing a musical at Proctors, at first, we drove through a little more sketchy neighborhood to get to this restaurant. The outside wasn't very appealing, as the restaurant is located in a small strip mall, & there is a huge tattoo sign on the store next door. Walking inside though, it all changed. The atmosphere inside is sleek & modern, not what you might expect in a strip mall. The easy listening background music was relaxing. We sat in a lovely dining room; there's a large separate room for hibachi as well. Our sushi dinners & seaweed salad were tasty. One disappointment for my hubby though was that the side salad only consisted of iceberg lettuce; that's not uncommon in the Japanese restaurants we've tried though... The serving plates were sleek. The wasabi served was presented in the shape of a flower, & a fresh flower was placed on each entree. Elegant dining experience!

Mari's Japanese Cuisine moved to different locations through out the years. In 2003 we were moved to what was the former White Cupboard Cafe in Schenectady from the City of Schenectady, and began renovations on our current location. In August of 2003 reno
We have eaten many times over the years at Mari's and it has consistently been thebest Japanese food, or any food for that matter, that we have had. It is a small, very sweet place with great service and a comfortable atmosphere. Highly recommended!

I go out to dinner alot and I thought I've been to every good restaurant in downtown Schenectady. I was mistaken. Pho Queen is special. This is a small cozy restaurant with about 10-12 tables. We were greeted by the owner who was very accommodating while answering all of our questions. .Table settings and dining area are very nice. Every dish we had was terrific. Nice variety of duck, the soups were large and some came with a nice kick to it. If you are looking for a change of pace, add this to your dining rotation.

Sometimes you go to restaurants and can never know what the soups will feel like. The ramen was delicious, sushi was fresh and the lunch box meals were beautiful. We had a fabulous meal. But then they treated us at the end with their fried ice cream for the kids. It took less than 45 seconds to finish this delightful treat!

They are so centrally located to Proctors which is a huge deal on show nights which was why we were there. We couldnât really get into the places we wanted to at that time so we settled for Zen. First, my water glass was filthy which is becoming a trend in restaurants these days. The waitress acted like I was lying when I asked for a new one and inspected the glass thoroughly. We ordered sesame chicken, Thai basil fried rice, shrimp and asparagus dish, and a Philadelphia roll. The sesame chicken was way too sweet, the thai basil rice was bland and the shrimp was so over cooked and chewy. The asparagus dish was watery and shrimp were chewy. The sushi was clearly not freshly rolled since it came out in milliseconds and in fact it tasted like store bought crap sushi. I have season tickets to Proctors this year and wonât be going back here for sure.

Welcoming atmosphere, fresh iced tea, lovely décor. I ordered the sweet and sour stir fry. The description said that it was supposed to come in a pineapple bowl, which it did not but it didn't matter because it was delicious. Enjoyable pot stickers too. Loved the light soy sauce the pot stickers were swimming in. They also were very good about not including any oyster or fish sauce in the preparation of my dishes because I am allergic. My dining companion had shrimp tempura and shrimp skewers. She ate every bit of it and loved every minute. Reasonable prices.
