We visited the Gourmet Canton this evening wishing to try the new dishes offered by the new owners. They have a new dinner for 2 or 4 available but the size was too large for us small eaters. Instead my husband ordered a meal for 1 of sweet and sour pork and chicken chow mein which he very much enjoyed and I wanted something healthier so ordered what the waitress suggested. It was a very fine rice noodle chow mein dish with some curry spice, prawns, pork and vegetables. It was not at all greasy but their idea of spice may be a little warmer than what you are used to. After the first mouthful it was okay. I did hear someone else say that next time they would not order it as spicy so if you're not a spice person then make sure you stress no or very little spice. I understand the new owners have some dishes they will be slowly introducing as they are quite different then what we're used to.

We ordered the dinner for two and everything was very good and hot! I have had the smorgasbord and I suggest you get there early as everything is just coming out of the kitchen.....yummmmy! Come later and you may not be so content with what you get!

Great service. Very good food and excellent agedashi tofu. There was also a good choice of local boutique beers.We both order a mixed sashimi plate and it included some steelhead. That was a first for me and it was interesting to see how differently it tasted to regular salmon.

We went with friends who dine here often and this was our first time. Impressed with the atmosphere and private room. Service was exceptional and accommodating to our tight schedule. Teriyaki rice bowl was good, tempura exceptional. Will go back. Prices a bit high, portions on the slightly lighter side.

It was our 1st time trying this restaurant, we have been to many other Vietnamese restaurants. The food was good, reminded us more of Thai food then Vietnamese. The server was great at the beginning, she was fast at taking our order and getting us our drinks. Once our food arrived that was the last we saw of her, we had to go up to the counter to get a refill on our waters, it was not busy either otherwise we would have understood why she didn't come around. When we had finished our meal, she was on top of giving us our bill. All in all it was an okay place to go.

Definitely worth the visit!GREAT and FRIENDLY service...... GOOD food (a lot of Thai places put cardboard-dry chicken into their curries... NOT here ;-).....The food was so good that I ate way more than I really wanted to.Definitely a place to come back to next time I'm in Powell River.

Wow, great meal! Curry shots were delicious, curries were perfectly spiced and service was excellent! Couldnât have been better! 3 of us had different curries and all were wonderful. The desserts were also very tasty, the cheese in milk was different but we all enjoyed it as well. We left no food uneaten!
