The Teloglion Foundation of Art houses some notable collections, created by the husband and wife team Aliki and Nestor Telloglou in the spirit of philanthropy and serving the community. Its extensive collection can to a large extent tell the story of modern Greek art up to the present day. There is an exceptional collection of twentieth century prints, complemented by smaller collections of sculpture antiquities Far Eastern art, ceramics, glass and textiles, while new donations are added on a daily basis. The most important donation, research tool in the Foundation is the Library and Spiteri Archive, donated by Tonis and Ioanna Spiteri, which covers Greek and European art. Other important donations to the TI include the Giorgos Mourelos Archive and the Marinos Kalligas Library.

This 'contemporary' museum is full of wonderfully astounding quirks. Firstly, the entry staff write handwritten receipts for your ticket - its like going back in time! Then there are displays of a great mixture of provoking, confronting and challenging art. But for some real fun - try to read the descriptions of each piece of art. They are carefully printed in tiny font so that no-one over 45 has any chance of reading them without the use of magnifying spectacles. And just when you get to within 30 cm so you can actually read the description, a staff member leaps from nowhere and scolds you to get back from the art. Next time I will take a telescope.

The Municipal Art Gallery of Thessaloniki, founded in 1966, is housed in Casa Bianca, a listed monument of the recent architectural heritage of Thessaloniki. Casa Bianca was built by the Italian architect Piero Arrigoni in the early 20th century and housed the Jewish family Fernandez-Diaz. It is considered a characteristic example of architectural eclecticism. The building, property of the Municipality of Thessaloniki since 1990, was restored in 1997. Casa Bianca is hosting temporary exhibitions on the ground floor, a permanent exhibition of the works of Nikolaos Gyzis on the first floor and part of the Modern Greek engraving and scupture collection in the attic. In the lower ground floor the history of the building, the Fernandez’ family and the surrounding area are presented.
