We had hoped this would be a genuine Gallah culinary experience. Sadly, it's not. The chicken gumbo was dry and didn't even have okra. The salad was from a supermarket. The fish chowder tasted like salty tomato soup and had very little fish. The corn bread was okay. On the positive side, the server was nice. All overpriced. Not worth a visit.

Beautiful rustic restaurant nestled on the Lowcountry barrier island, with stunning marsh views, serving local shrimp from the shrimp boats just up the road, beautiful fresh seafood and local produce from Demsey Farm. We pride ourselves in fresh prepared
This is one of our two favorite restaurants in the area. We saved it for our last night at Hunting Island. We had shrimp and crab cakes. Both were excellent. The crab cakes were served with what husband said was fantastic risotto and a corn-bean-pepper medley. My shrimp was served with good fries but I spent my time on the excellent shrimp and slaw. Service was good and the atmosphere pleasant. Only ding was they did not have baked potatoes.

We are a locally owned family restaurant specializing in seafood, steak, ribs, and a variety of great desserts. The restaurant is under new ownership and management as of April 2017. Please stop back in if you've been gone for a while, or if you've never
Though this wasn't near as bad as some of the other restaurants I've been to here it was not good either. Every place I have been to here that serves Seafood (besides Dockside) overcooks their entrees. The food here was just overall bland, not seasoned well and my family got the fried shrimp and it was overbreaded tiny pieces of shrimp. It wasn't as poor as Foolish Frog but close. Family style atmosphere though so decently nice on the inside.

My husband and I often drop in for lunch at this local cafe. We both enjoy the food very much...home cooked and the onion rings are fantastic! I've had the fried shrimp, steak sandwich and several other items on the lunch menu. All were good. Friends have gone for dinner and had good things to say! Service was very good

Staff at the Fripp Island resort recommended this restaurant to us as it is quite convenient to the island. The setting is decidedly casual and their signature thing is the personalized dollar bills stapled to virtually every surface in the place. Overall, the four of us were pleased with our food and drinks. I had the mussels which were tender and tasty, My dinner companions were happy with their choices as well.

I'm trying to comprehend these great reviews. This was THE WORST place that we've ever been to been to for lunch. While visiting Hunting Island, we stopped by to grab a couple of sandwiches. The cafe looked dark, small and cramped with local trinkets to buy. We thought that it could be one of those dives that didn't look like much but wow, the food! After all, it had great reviews on TripAdvisor. Not even close! The only positive was that the young woman behind the counter was very pleasant. We ordered 2 sandwiches. The bread used for the sandwiches were the smallest slices that we've ever seen. We couldn't understand why she needed to toast the bread before making the paninis. And when we bit into the sandwiches, the bread was totally crisp like a giant crouton. There wasn't much meat, they were so dry, no mayo to moisten and add flavor to these slightly larger appetizer things they called paninis. The description of our selections on the menu did indicate that they had mayo. We were the only patrons there during lunchtime. Tell-tale sign! Adding 2 packages of chips and one soda, $26 later and we were still hungry. The restaurant in the back of the parking lot was packed! Boy did we ever make the wrong choice. It's unfortunate that we came here for an early lunch before we saw the crowds growing behind us.I equate this cafe to bad restaurants located in touristy areas. They don't cater to locals who would keep coming back. Their hoping to find tourists to stop in, knowing that they'll never return. Their food assures that this will be a one and done option.I hope that this review sufficiently warns you to avoid this place at all costs. We're still talking about this place 2 months later. I would have given this cafe zero stars, but that was not an option.

Scenic waterfront dining with spectacular sunsets while eating american and seafood cuisine. Upstairs and downstairs seating with optional bar seating. Kid friendly as well as serving a child menu.
Have eaten here many times. Food is ok, but the poor rating stems from service, starting when one walks through the door. As others have noted, donât even think about eating here without an amenities card! I get it, but they could be a bit nicer about it. Then they hmm and hum for a couple minutes to âfindâ a table. This was five minutes after they open! At least they asked us how our day was (they do that every time we are there), which was a bit insincere. Our server was ok and tried. The whole staff seemed disorganized. Canât beat the views though, as it is right on a low country tidal marina. We're sorry that your experiences at Bonito Boathouse were less than exceptional and all of your concerns have been passed on to our food and beverage managers. Any reviews are incredibly helpful for us to see what's working and what isn't so we can strive to be better each and every day. We hope that you give us another chance and decide to visit again. Thank you so much for your feedback!
