Maine State Ferry Service

We took this ferry to and from North Haven Island. Before that, we had questions about parking, etc., and the quesions were answered in a fridedly proessional manner. The large waiting area athe dock is airconditioned and comfortable, clean restrooms. If you can't find parking at the ferry dock, the boatyard next door will accommodate your overnight parking needs for $10 a night (I forget the name -- call to ask the nice lady at the ferry office.) So - many compliments to the Maine Ferry Service!!! Friendly, professional, well-organized, and well-run all around. My only comment is that unlike some provate ferries, there is no accommodation here to drop your bags and check them in. It's good to have a tag team here to drop the bags, and have the other park the car. Have lunch beforehand, or bring it to the terminal. While MainStreet businesses are not that far, it is a walk away, and you mgiht find it less stressful to bring any food oyu need with you (nothing at the terminal.)

My son and I enjoyed the 2/22/2020 train ride with pizza and whoopie pie lunch! The staff was friendly and helpful, and attentive to the needs of passengers. My son is a young adult with autism, and is obsessed with trains, so the combination of the train ride with the delicious food was a hit with him! Dress in layers, as the stove kept the car very warm (which was nice, especially since there were babies in attendance), and plan to arrive at the Depot 30-40 minutes before departure, as parking is limited. The price ($25/adult) was very reasonable for a 1.5 hour train ride, 2+ slices of fresh pizza, and a dessert. It's challenging to find activities that we can do together, and we'll definitely be repeat customers!

Rockland, Maine is a great place to visit, but the star of the area is Camden. Getting there is easy with Schooner Bay Taxi. The drivers are pleasant and know the area well. Rates are competitive and vehicles are clean.
