The Paradise island of Indian ocean is truly a paradise for butterfly aficionados with various 243 butterfly species & skippers. Seasonally, huge number of migrations butterflies take place. The park offers everything that is needed for an exciting safari. Great landscapes, many animals, especially elephants! We were very close to the elephants and were very lucky to be able to watch a whole herd and also some baby elephants. Furthermore, I would like to emphasize our tour guide - not only did he inspire and excite us with his very good mood, he also saw many small animals with his trained eye and answered our questions thoroughly. The 3 hours passed by in no time and gave us many nice memories. Would totally recommend booking a trip with these guys :-)
Lunugamvehera National Park in Sri Lanka was declared in 1995, with the intention of protecting the catchment area of the Lunugamvehera reservoir and wildlife of the area. The national park is an important habitat for water birds and elephants. The catchment area is vital to maintain the water levels of the five tanks in the down stream of Kirindi Oya and wetland characteristics of Bundala National Park. This national park also serves as a corridor for elephants to migrate between Yala National Park and Udawalawe National Park. The national park is situated 261 km (162 mi) southwest from Colombo. After being closed because of the Sri Lankan civil war, the national park is now open to the general public.

What an experience!!, we arrived just as the elephants appeared from the jungle and watched 5 large groups go to the water. The Jeep driver got us into the perfect place for photographs, responding quickly when a female decided we'd got too close. So beautiful to watch the interaction of the family units as they got to the water.
