Small museum dedicated to the life and times of the car-racing Wood Brothers.
We have been lifelong Wood Brothers Racing fans and finally were able to visit the museum while we were in Martinsville for the races. What a wonderful surprise this was. So much memorabilia, pictures and history were incredible and the staff was so welcoming and kind. We will definitely visit again if we get back to the area.

We stayed at a cabin at Fairy Stone State Park for 5 nights in August, 2020. We were in cabin #16, a 2-bedroom cinderblock cabin. We had an excellent stay. The cabin was clean, everything worked great, the screened in porch was perfect - looked like new screens. The park has excellent amenities including great well-marked hiking trails, a huge beach, boat rentals, and tons of picnic areas. We highly recommend this park. Bring all your own food as the closest town is 25-30 minutes and there is not much in Stuart if you plan to eat out or find decent groceries. We visited Floyd and had a nice time in Floyd. We also visited the Philpott Dam and Blue Ridge Parkway.

In the late ’90s, the Stanley family had never grown a grape nor made wine. In fact, only one in the family even drank wine, and she was the daughter-in-law! Nelson Stanley had been installing all of the plumbing and air lines at Chateau Morrisette’s new winery building and had become close to the owner and winery staff, so when they put out a call for grape growers, the Stanley family’s first response was not “why” but “why not?” Nearly 20 years, some viticulture and oenology seminars and classes, and a heck of a lot of hands-on experience later, the family’s Stanburn Winery has become one of the sought-after wineries of southwest Virginia along with Chateau Morrisette. They grow 40-50 tons of grapes in the vineyard and now make 12 wines. Visit Stanburn Winery in the beautiful rolling hills of Patrick County, Virginia. The family will probably be in the vineyard, the tasting room, the cellar, or at a wine festival, so make sure you stop in, say hello, and try the wines!
This winery is a little out of the way but definitely worth a visit. We followed the GPS directions but I had to switch to the Stanburn Winery website directions to be sure we were on track. I recommend using their website directions, as the only indication you're in the right place are the vines that are growing just past the entrance road. We enjoyed all the wines here, even the sweet ones, which we do not normally appreciate. I believe this is because the winery philosophy is to support the taste and character of the grape being used. Our host was very personable and friendly, giving us information on the history of the vineyard and the meaning behind the names of their wines not named for the grape varietal. They are very proud of being in Patrick County and that their wine is a Patrick County product, that care and pride shows in the quality wines they produce. I loved that on entering the building before getting to the tasting room, you walk into the winery proper - with the oak barrels and stainless tanks. My only regret is that we did not visit on a day when they had music outside on the patio. Motorcycle note: this is another long gravel driveway.
