Waterfalls, a canyon , the Siffleru River and the majestic Saskatchewan River are some of the joys of this accessible hike. The hike can be done year round and provides a wonderful perspective on the Kootenay Plans where the native Indians spent their winters due to the warm climate of the area. There are many other historical trails and excellent back country hiking in the vicinity.
We make sure that we do the Siffleur falls hike every year. The trail crosses the Siffleur river and then rises above the canyon. The trail then follows the canyon up to the impressive waterfall. We always have a picnic at the falls. There are railings for safety but keep your children close at hand in the falls area.

Stroll along the banks of the North Saskatchewan River, one of the original ‘highways’ to the west. Follow in the footsteps of Indigenous Peoples, fur traders, and legendary explorer David Thompson. Experience the archaeological remains of four fur trade posts and seven kilometers of nature trails. Marvel at a bison herd. Stay awhile and experience a range of camping styles along the banks of the North Saskatchewan River: from Indigenous trapper tents and tipis to walk-in tenting and RV stalls. Visit the Métis camp, blacksmith forge/boathouse and fort sites. Learn a new trade or craft dating back to the fur trade era. See how Red River carts and York Boats were made. Roll up your sleeves to make your own drum, dream-catcher or traditional craft using quills, leather and textiles.
A well-done National Historic Site. Lots of information about the site and it's importance to Canadian history. The reenactors were helpful and knowledgeable. I would have liked to have seen a little more information about the Indigenous peoples of the area and their experiences as...MoreThank you so much for visiting! We're glad to hear you enjoyed the campsite and we appreciate your feedback about our interpretative programming. Thanks again!

Extremely spacious campsite with lots of room for even really long RV’s. The area where you park has picnic tables, fire pits and lots of room on either side so you don’t feel overlooked or cramped. Showers and toilets were spotless and easy to access. Walking around the campsite was flat and very well laid out. The clubhouse has a small coffee bar with food. Golf course is away from the campsite so no stray golf balls. Everywhere was well groomed and someone was driving round on a golf cart to help with issues and check dogs were under control and everything was running smoothly. A really nice campsite would definitely go back.

We rented a cabin from the place listed on Wild Kakwa Safari's website. Brad lead the way. After we got settled in, we launched from there. Drove for a couple hours through the trails. Beautiful scenery! Stopped for lunch. Made a campfire and had hotdogs. Continued on the rest of the afternoon through more trails. Great way to spend the day. Brad will make you feel like you've known him for years. He's considerate to every level of rider. I was new to it, and he made me feel very safe.
