This was my first visit to a Mandir, so I wasn’t sure what to expect or if I would feel I was out of place. My young daughters and I were warmly welcomed by staff yet in no way pressured to donate funds or act in any specific way. We entered the building, veered to the female room and stored our shoes for free in the cubbies. There are free shawls and wrap around skirts for those entering with too much skin exposed. My daughter wore both and was approached by a staff member informing us my daughter didn’t need the shawl or skirt. My daughter looked up at me and I realized she *wanted* to wear them as part of the cultural experience and so she did. I recommend veering to the right and watching the ten minute video that runs on a loop before entering the actual mandir. This allows for context and points out several features you would likely otherwise miss. After touring the mandir, stop by the food shop for delicious prepared vegetarian food and prepacked snacks and treats plus assorted other beauty products and other items. On our way out we stopped by the counter to make a financial donation and were gifted a small box of sweets. We are glad we went and recommend people of all religions and ages visit to gain insight into another culture. We will definitely return to watch the other structures that are currently under construction and also to pick up more delicious snacks! We spent about 40 minutes there and note no photos allowed inside the mandir.
