Vall de Núria mountain resort, with a unique wealth of nature and landscape, is located in the Eastern Pyrenees, within the municipal area of Queralbs. It sits above one of the highest points of the Ribes Valley and it's surrounded by peaks of almost 3,000 metres from which flow a multitude of water sources and torrents. We invite you to glory in this spectacular mountain landscape using an unusual form of transport: the rack railway. It covers a distance of 12.5 km and takes you up an incline of over 1000 metres.

This is a nice day trip from Barcelona. You will see many pictures and comments regarding the beautiful scenery. (And I agree wholeheartedly!) So, I decided to focus my review on the logistics. Be aware that it takes 2 hours & 40 minutes by train (including the rack rail). We took the Rodalies R3 line from Plaça de Catalunya to Ribes de Freser which has > 20 stops. We purchased a combined ticket which includes the Cremallera (rack rail) from the Rodalies office at P. de Catalunya. (See picture of train ticket.) At the ski lodge, you can pick up a trail map. The terrain is open and rocky, so we did not have an issue following the trail from Vall de Nuria to Queralbs (3 hour hike). There was a buffet at the ski lodge in case you want to eat lunch. It was just ok but convenient.

Nice Chapel in the surrounding of Nuria Valley. You can visit for free in just 10 minutes, it's curious to see.
