Wine and History have been only one for centuries at the Commanderie de Peyrassol. Located at the village of Flassans-sur-Issole, among the hills of the Var department, the Commanderie de Peyrassol was created in the 13th century by the Order of the Knights Templar. Its wide fertile land has been an unavoidable place for many pilgrims looking for rest during their journey to the Holy Land. Emblematic of Provencal heritage, the winery has always been an agricultural and welcoming place that produced wine. Faithful to the spirit it always had since its creation by the Order of the Knights Templar, the Commanderie de Peyrassol winery invites you to discover its cellars and taste its Cotes de Provence wines. You will be welcomed in a sumptuous place by our friendly team which will make you discover the winery and will provide you valuable advice on tasting. Peyrassol is also a venue dedicated to contemporary art where individual works, in symbiosis with the outstanding setting, could express themselves to the full. The domaine is now the premier monumental sculpture park in Europe and brings together in one place the work of more than fifty top artists. At the Commanderie de Peyrassol, art is everywhere, and the works arranged around the property, in carefully-chosen settings, invite visitors to ponder, to marvel, to dream and to be amused as they wander around at leisure.
Chef Marc from Restaurant La Jeannette at Giens kindly advised us to visit La Commanderie de Peyrassol and taste Chef Guillaume’s cuisine: absolutely delicious. We had Lunch (family of 5) with eggplant caviar and goat cheese (all products from the region), then a very tender pork shoulder (slowly cooked 3 hours) and local vegetables, a delicious chocolate and strawberry crumble to finish. We could then walk through the vineyards and discovered interesting modern art sculptures. At last (but not least) we had a professional dégustation of rose wines and could purchase wonderful presents for our family and friends.
