St Medan Golf Club

This course is challenging due to the hills and uneven fairways but the picturesque views towards the beaches and sea excuse this. It's very beautiful here and an exhilarating experience standing on a tee box and seeing for miles around. We have visited in the summer and autumn and have not been disappointed. We stayed in the caravan situated on the course itself just by the clubhouse which is very comfortable with outstanding views of both the course and the stunning coastline. I would highly recommend a visit and if possible a stay here.

Barsalloch Fort

A flight of well-built steps (with sturdy handrail) lead steeply up from a small car-park. I would suggest the height of the steps (risers) would make this a difficult climb for small children or those with walking difficulties but there's plenty of room to take a breather on the way up (or down). If you endure the ascent in good weather (and why else would you be here?), you will be well rewarded with clearly defined (but unexcavated) earthworks - almost too good to be believed they're as old as claimed - that you can walk around and some amazing, uninterrupted views of the coastline and beyond to the Isle of Man and Ireland. P.S. If you were thinking "fort" in this context meant crenellations, canon and portcullis, etc. look elsewhere. Bring binoculars for the possibility of seeing soaring birds of prey and even porpoises (swimming not soaring).
