Very nice views of the light house. Small museum which operates on donations. Very limited parking at end of a single track road. This is the lighthouse that Forrest Gump was running to in the film.

Monhegan Boat Line has provided year round ferry service to Monhegan Island for nearly 100 years. The Laura B and Elizabeth Ann offer three trips daily during the summer. Went for the puffins and we also saw lobsters, porpoises, seals, bald eagle and all kinds of birds.
In addition to the nature spotting's the amazing islands that we cruised past and around was very picturesque. The history of the area from an entertaining gentleman was very interesting.
Even the boat we were on had a story behind it.
You can bring a picnic lunch or snacks and enjoy the ride insight don't forget your binoculars and sunblock.
Affordable way to see Maine coastland and wildlife!!

If you want to experience the beauty of Maine from the water, don't miss a boat or kayak trip. Of the companies we've encountered, our experience with Port Clyde Kayaks was one of the best. We signed up for a half-day excursion, led by the personable and very experienced owner, Cody. It was wonderful! Wildlife sightings included seals, porpoises and eagles. The nearby Port Clyde General Store is a good spot to pick up snacks although Cody offered protein bars and water when our group stopped for a rest at a small island mid-way through the trip. A nice touch and most welcome as we worked up an appetite paddling for several hours. My friends, husband and I agreed that this was one of the highlights of our time in Maine.

We were staying in Boothbay,and went exploring lighthouses.Owl's Head Lighthouse is surrounded by a very beautiful park,free parking then walk about a quarter of a mile thru beautiful scenery. 57 steps up to the lighthouse.We were there on a Sunday morning so we couldn't go into the lighthouse only open on certain days.It didn't matter the view was just breathtaking,and the smell of all the flowers were perfect.There is a gift shop with some historical information.We then went on to walk around the park,good sneakers is a must there's no paved areas here,dirt rocky.Well worth the visit....stayed about 2hrs.there are picnic benches located by the parking lot facing the ocean,we ate our already packed lunch there,then head to the Owl Transportation museum which is a ten minute drive,another great place.

Herring Gut is a very nice educational facility for school age children. They are about all things marine but focus on hydroponics and aquaculture. They also do workshops and institutes for school teachers.

Tours aboard the “MisKim” consist of 2 hours on the water observing a real lobsterman at work. You will motor between islands tending traps. Photograph Marshall Point Lighthouse from the movie “Forrest Gump.” Enjoy the raucous sound of gulls as they wheel overhead.The opportunity to observe seabirds is boundless, seals sunning themselves on rocks and an occasional porpoise is not unheard of. You may even encounter a whale!

We were made to feel instantly comfortable on a boat with room on the deck for sight seeing at tied-down picnic tables. Our captain greeted us as did Pete, the tour guide. We loved the tales and sights, sea birds, seals, islands. We saw only a dozen or so puffins, all in the water, but we did also see osprey and and eagles. A history tour as well as a wildlife tour. Worth the time.
