From the Roman origins of the property to its rebirth under the Ballande group, 500 years of historic figures and events at this estate have combined to forge its special spirit, perfectly embodied by the Pope of Wine, Alexis Lichine. Tours, wine tastings, store.
Our tour bus stopped here at this winery on our way to Bordeaux, France. We had a very good tour seeing the grapes being brought in and sorted and then going in to the large vats. Our guide gave a very good explanation of everything that was happening as he showed us around the winery and grounds. After the barrel room we all went in for a wine tasting that was excellent. They have a very nice gift shop where you can purchase wine and also many other gifts. It was a very enjoyable experience and they also had good bathroom facilities.

The contemporary architecture of the cellars at Château La Tour de Bessan certainly doesn’t go unnoticed: the cellars are housed in a 1934 building that was renovated and transformed into the production site in 1999 by the architect Vincent Defos du Rau. Come and discover what goes on behind the scenes in the winery: you will be accompanied by a member of our team, either Marie-Laure Lurton herself or the cellar master at Château La tour de Bessan, Jean-Luc Brégille. Guided visits, tasting and blending workshops are all available.

As one of the wine tour pioneers in the Medoc region, Chateau Kirwan, family-owned estate, began to welcome wine amateurs and professionals in 1995. The winery offers a wide range of creative options such as culinary workshops, wine perfume creation, immersion tours, barrel tasting... The property, a Third Classified Growth from the Margaux appellation, has belonged to the Schyler family since 1926. The chateau, with a sober but refined architecture, witness to the French nobility's art of living prior to the French revolution, is surrounded by a beautiful 2ha park. The fermenting room and the cellars, recently restored, have kept pieces of ancient architecture mixed up with modern design. Chateau Kirwan is an award-winning chateau: in 2008, 2012 and 2018. There is one type of visit for every taste, and Chateau Kirwan offers a variety of tours tailored to your needs. All our experiences are available by reservation only, in French, English, Spanish, German and Deutsch.
Our Viking trip of the Bordeaux region was a good one, but this was the "capstone" of the trip. The culinary team and wait staff of the ship all gathered at the chateau to put on a spectacular meal for the entire ship. We had no idea that they would go to all that effort--it was a total surprise to us! And it was a good one! The chateau is a very nice one--small, but well done. The outside was hard to see at night, but the interior hd been renovated in a very interesting manner--it is a "historic" one with a real modern touch. It is well done! There are old elements built in (some are obviously new, but still appropriate, as well as some great treatments of the ceilings area and the exterior doors. The woodwork inside is excelent and it creates a very warm feel to a space large enough for about 250 people. The menu was excellent and the wines were great. The staff did not talk up the meal as much as they should have. If you are on the cruise, DO NOT SKIP THIS ONE!
