A group of 50 seniors visited new Norcia today on a day trip organized by Hello World, Alexander Heights. I have wanted to visit for 45 years and it has taken Covid restrictions for me to visit our own back yard. It is the only Monastic town in Australia and its history is extremely interesting. The old historical buildings have a beautiful architectural style and there are three beautiful churches with beautiful paintings in them. One almost like a mini Sistine Chapel. Being less that two hours from Perth it is an interesting drive through farming country, and you see the DISK as you drive up. Actually I would even recommend it for a weekend stay in the excellent hotel that they have there. Our meal was excellent on a beautiful laid tables, and tea served in the most colorful cup and pots. Reasonably priced I would recommend that as many people from Western Australia consider visiting, and even spending a weekend there. Stop at the Bindoon bakery on your drive there. I certainly will be doing it. David Schokman.

Husband and I stayed one night in the Guesthouse during our recent wildflower escapade. We did the 2 hour town tour with Gary, our guide. He is very passionate about preservation of the place and knows the history very well presenting it in an informal manner. He even gave us a piano recital. The town oozes serenity and hopefully it will get restored to its former glory. It is the only Monastic town in Western Australia and deserves to be looked after Our accommodation in the Guesthouse was basic, clean and in very pleasant surroundings. The beds and pillows are very comfortable. We attended the nightly vespers and had dinner in the dining room which was soup for entree and rissoles and salad for mains. The bread was baked at the New Norcia Bakery known for beautiful bread and it didn’t disappoint. There was plenty of food so nobody went hungry. It was nice just to walk around the grounds and feel the peace. The church bells weren’t working when we were there and we hope they will be repaired soon as it will add to the feel of the place to hear them
