Navarre is a Census-designated place and unincorporated community in Santa Rosa County in the northwest Florida Panhandle. It is a bedroom community for mostly U.S. Military personnel, Federal Civil Servants, local population, retirees and defense contractors. Due to its proximity to Navarre Beach and its four miles of beach front on the Gulf of Mexico as well as the Gulf Islands National Seashore, it has a small, but growing community of nature enthusiasts and tourists.

Tucked away in a corner of Northwest Florida, far from crowded theme parks and packed beaches, you will find a piece of the old Florida offering solitude and simplicity for sun seekers, families, outdoor adventurers, nature lovers and water sports enthusiasts.
Picked the Emerald Coast for a spring break getaway. The beach itself is fantastic. It’s wide, clean and not overcrowded. The gulf water is beautiful here. There are several, public access points to park at. We came with several kids who loved all the shells that have washed up. The sand is fine and soft. It’s a beautiful cream color.
There are a couple small shoppes/ bars to sample but this is not your beach if you want commercialism.

This 50-acre wildlife sanctuary is perfect for families.
The Gulf Breeze Zoo was a very pleasant surprise. It is spread over a large area with easy walking trails and even a miniature train that runs through a part of the property. The grounds and enclosures were well kept and the animals appeared to be healthy. A great time was had by grandparents, parent, and teenage girl. Admission is pretty healthy but our daughter and granddaughter got season memberships that were quite reasonable and would represent a savings if going more than a couple of times a year.

Pensacola Beach is the main attraction on this island.
Even though this strip is very narrow and is over-washed during some hurricanes the shoreline hasn't changed much in recent history. If you look carefully you can even find a military canyon (battery with rails) concealed in some of the higher dunes. The lagoon side still has some very important sea grasses and you can find some lantana species, too.

Our family loves the NBSTCC. Very relaxed place to visit and ask questions. It is a small but cozy family of mostly volunteers. Some hands on activities available and great for kids. Watch their website for upcoming events, volunteer opportunities, and community happenings which they...MoreThank you so much for the kind words! We look forward to seeing you soon!

The Panhandle Butterfly House is so cute! We took the kids and all enjoyed looking through the indoor collection and the outdoor live butterflies as well. The staff was super friendly, informative, and helpful. We especially enjoyed seeing the live display of the various stages of the life cycles and how the eggs and chrysalises all looked different, depending on the species. We also learned what plants we can plant in our garden to provide important pit stops for food for the butterflies!

I have visited this establishment and know the owners. They are great people and they have a great play area for kids. Always seem busy when I drive by there.
