On February 12, 1809, Abraham Lincoln was born in a one-room log cabin, similar to the authentic 19th-century cabin preserved here.
My quest to see as many National Park Service properties as I can brought me to Lincoln's Birthplace. It is actually a bit smaller than Indiana's Boyhood Home, but the Memorial Building is quite impressive. I checked out the Visitor Center and the gift shop before heading over to the Memorial. I made a quick detour down to the spring for a quick picture and then went up the steps and inside the building. There, you will find a period correct cabin, which is not the original Lincoln cabin, but an original from the same time period. The Ranger in side answered the few questions I had and then I headed out and walked the Boundary Oak Trail, which is short and pretty hilly. I came back up to the memorial from the left and then walked around to the Pathway of the President Trail, which is an accessible trail from the Visitor Center to the Memorial Building. That means there are no stairs, it's all a wooden walkway. It's a great place to visit and doesn't take a whole lot of time. I was there under an hour and a half and saw it all.

Founded in 1989, the Lincoln Museum is a community-supported, nonprofit organization dedicated to the preservation of Abraham Lincoln’s legacy. The Lincoln Museum is on the National Register of Historic Places and includes 12 authenticated scenes from Lincoln’s life. On the second level are exhibits, memorabilia, and the Lincoln Days Art Collection. The Lincoln Museum is located on the town square overlooking a statue plaza featuring works from the 1909 Lincoln centennial celebration as well as more-recent bicentennial activities.
What a wonderful little town and museum. The self-guided tour is exceptional and well laid-out. The director and staff are very knowledgeable and answered all our questions. The building itself is an architectural delight.

What a great spot in our history. So glad that this iconic spot has been saved for posterity. It is a great place to think about our 16th President and how his life began so humbly. Take time to detour from the main road to visit the memorial and birthplace.
