On a recent sunny Wednesday, me and Hubby decided to return to the Dam Disaster Memorial which is located on the B5106 inbetween Llanrwst and Conwy (opposite Surf Snowdonia). There is free roadside parking. We walked around the short (but slightly steep) circular trail, reading the commemorative plaques along the way. On Monday evening, 2.11.1925, the dam wall above the village breached. Massive boulders, debris and mud were carried down the hillside by the force of the floodwater, destroying everything in its path. The villagers could hear the church bells ringing as it was being swept away. A total of 10 adults and 6 children (aged between 4 months and 5 years) died.......R.I.P.
