This iconic historic site in Otter Tail County is the subject of untold painting and /photographs - also the Phelps Mill Arts Festival in July - the water sluicing over the dam is always a comfort and the calm, gorgeous river through this park is a breath of tranquility. Beautiful in every season, just go there!

Glendalough State Park

Reviewed By Judy J - White Bear Lake, Minnesota

This is a lovely state park! For many years, it was a private retreat that was owned by the Star Tribune paper. In 1991 it was given to the Nature Conservancy and then to MN for a state park. The original lodge is open and has a lot of history of the property. I hiked in the Annie Battle and Emma Lake area of the park. These are great trails for young children or others who have difficulty with uneven trails and/or hills. There is a bike trail through the park that is in very good condition. There are plenty of maps along the trails and the trails are well marked.
We didn't go into the campground. There are a number of camper cabins and the tent sites are all "cart in" (you can't drive to your campsite). Carts are provided. There is a modern restroom and shower building as you go into the campground area.

Nyberg Park

Reviewed By RCMoeur - Phoenix, Arizona

Stopped here on our Big 2014 Road Trip. This park is filled with amazing giant metal statues welded up by Ken Nyberg, a local resident (and father to astronaut Karen Nyberg). There are giant animals, melons, tools, and other sights perfect for wacky roadtrip photos or just a romp on the grass. The park sits next to a local fuel stop, so food, drinks, and facilities are available. Great place!

Silver Sage Guest Ranch - Day Camps

Reviewed By Ecogoat - Columbus, Ohio

Silver Sage Ranch is a gem along the drive from Minneapolis into Manitoba. Camping here was terrific, with beautiful views, clean level tent sites, very clean washrooms with showers, a pretty lake well-stocked with fish, and a little beach. There is also a marsh adjacent with singing bullfrogs. The trail ride was fun, starting with as assessment of my daughter's (age 7) riding abilities, which I appreciated as it means staff are really paying attention to what the kids are capable of safely doing. The ride went through woods and around the edge of the lake, over hills affording views of the area. Altogether a wonderful start to our day! Silver Sage also offers week-long riding camps and lessons for those staying in the area longer. Staff are very friendly and knowledgeable.

This collection is an incredible record of civil war history and especially of this one family. What a treasure for history buffs and people interested in learning more about the civil war era from a very personal perspective. Jay Johnson is a wealth of information and he love to share it.

Fort Juelson

Reviewed By minneapol - Grey Eagle, Minnesota

As you can see from the pictures. This Fort is all pictures in your mind of what was many years ago, There is nothing hokey. No food stands or souveniers. This was a real Fort and the plaques tell you about the settlers. When you get to the top of the hill. Use your imagination and try to see how it looked to them. This was a most interesting place and free.
