Tourisitc visits of Ackerman's cellars in Saumur and tasting. A three-part visit at the heart of troglodyte cellars: a trip throughout history, an artistic experience and a break on the Loire river... Founded in 1811, Ackerman is the leading producer of Loire Valley fine sparkling wines. Situated in Saumur, on the banks of the Thouet river, a tributary of the Loire, at once informative and entertaining, the cellars of the House of Ackerman combine charm, heritage, and prestige. The wines of Ackerman are true to type, well-balanced and elegant. Ackerman is bubbly, luminous and enticing. The House's still, sparkling, organic and alcohol-free wines are available at its boutique all year round. Discover Ackerman's world of wines.
We spent a couple of hours here on a particularly hot day. Self-guided tour was leisurely and it was a very quiet day so not many other people around really. The exhibit is informative and the art displays were good too. We enjoyed the free tasting at the end and bought 6 bottles to take home. Not all the bottles made it home as we drank them on holiday so I will have to find somewhere in the UK which sells Ackerman Cremant de Loire.

A symbol of the town of Saumur, the château is an old fortress that was converted into a palace by the Dukes of Anjou (14th and 15th centuries), including King René. It then became the residence of the town’s governors, a prison, then a depot for arms and munitions. In 1906, the town bought the château from the State to house its municipal museum, which has since earned the Musée de France label. A rich collection of decorative arts currently occupies the first floor of the north and east wings. Part of the horse collection, featuring objects from Antiquity to the early 20th century, is on display in the old abbey church. The château gardens offer exceptional panoramic views of the Loire and the town. In the summer, there are activities for all the family. Forbidden to pets.
What a beautiful place to visit a couple of hours go by in a blink of an eye. Built on such a magnificent sight, the decor inside and detail in the rooms that you can access is very impressive. We wandered up and down and had a great time, unfortunately, the kitchens were closed still save that for next time. very interesting Horse museum altogether an enjoyable afternoon
