Ramsgate is a seaside town in the district of Thanet in east Kent, England. It was one of the great English seaside towns of the 19th century. In 2001 it had a population of around 40,000. Ramsgate’s main attraction is its coastline, and its main industries are tourism and fishing. The town has one of the largest marinas on the English south coast, and the Port of Ramsgate has provided cross-channel ferries for many years.

I went here recently for the first time and really enjoyed looking at all the boats in the harbour and there are plenty of little cafes and restaurants dotted around the harbour Plus there’s a sandy beach with a lovely looking sea

Ashamed to say, 35 yrs living in Thanet and driving by this place and we’d never been before! We were totally missing out! We spent just shy of 3 hours here and chose to visit the day they had birds of prey there. We were able to pay £1 for a photo and a hold of one of the birds, with all proceeds going to the reserve. There are plenty of picnic areas. Also plenty of benches to stop at along the walks. There is a fairy trail and a dinosaur trail to keep the little ones busy. There are also brass rubbings but no materials provided for them. My only negative was the museum quiz. We attempted it and even us grown ups couldn’t find the answers so we gave up. Bit disheartening for the kids. This could be made easier.

So excited for the newly refurbed garden and ‘beach’ and it didn’t disappoint! Grant is lovely, the atmosphere is perfect and their COVID response is admirable. As my first venture into a pub in months I felt safe and able to stay distanced and well sanitised! The new garden is perfect for sunny days with the children in tow, my 5 yr old son was happy for our whole visit. Looking forward to becoming a more regular customer!

Your tour starts with a short film show in a 150 year old Victorian Railway Tunnel before heading off into purpose built Air Raid Precaution tunnels under the town of Ramsgate. Hear about the “Mad Mayor” who saved the town Discover how the tunnels were built See where a town below the town evolved Listen to stories of life underground
Didn't know what to expect today, but it was a real treat and great history lesson. Air raid shelter tunnels 2 and a bit miles built in 8months with massive foresight... Thoroughly enjoyed the history and artifacts. Need sturdy shoes to walk the tunnels of which you may cover approx 1 mile underground. Enjoyable afternoon with the family. Avoid taking very young children!
