Herceg Novi (Montenegrin Cyrillic: Херцег Нови; pronounced [xěrtseɡ nôʋiː]) is a coastal town in Montenegro located at the entrance to the Bay of Kotor and at the foot of Mount Orjen. It is the administrative center of the Herceg Novi Municipality with around 33,000 inhabitants. Herceg Novi was known as Castelnuovo ("New castle" in Italian) between 1482 and 1797, when it was part of Ottoman Empire and the Albania Veneta of the Republic of Venice. It was a Catholic bishopric and remains a Latin titular see as Novi. Herceg Novi has had a turbulent past, despite being one of the youngest settlements on the Adriatic. A history of varied occupations has created a blend of diverse and picturesque architectural style in the city.

The medieval orthodox monastery complex situated next to the city, on a hill in the lush Mediterranean vegetation. It is composed of the Great Church, the Small Church and the Temple of Saint Sava, which was built, according to belief, by Saint Sava in the 13th century.
We walked to this Monastery and really enjoyed the history it represented and the care that has been given to it to keep it looking pristine. The entire region of Boka Bay is full of Monasteries high up in their hills and not easy to get to but Savina Monastery is easily accessible on foot. We recommend that you walk up the staircase on the right of the Monastery because about half way up you will find a clearing which gives you a fantastic aerial view of the Monastery and the western part of Boka Bay

In the museum, opened back in the mid-twentieth century, it is possible to see historical, ethnographic and archaeological collections of objects. A particular place is reserved for the gallery named after a painter from Herceg Novi Josip Bepo Benkovic, where expositions of works of foreign and Montenegrin artists are organised during the whole year.

Amazing place to enjoy a drink. Local beer is brewed here and other kinds are available. Nice music too. No food is served. I wish it is smoke-free! Some customer friendly attitude is needed here, but still my favorite!
