It is a favorite holiday destination for many local South Africans. It is about 40 minutes north of Durban. There are plenty of fishing spots along the coast from Salt Rock, through Shaka's Rock to Ballito and Salmon Bay. Salt Rock owes much of its history to Basil Hulett and his wife Gwen who started not only the Salt Rock Hotel but went on to develop the town of Salt Rock as found today. Nightlife in the small town is limited with a handful of pubs and restaurants offering a variety of food and drinks. A new development, Sheffield Manor, is situated in Salt Rock as well as the newly built Tiffany's Shopping Mall.

The lifestyle centre has created a food hall with seating surrounded by various small takeaways and restaurants cafes etc.They even have the Robsons craft beer restaurant where you can get a drink to go with a meal from any of the vendors. We went on a Sunday shopping at the mall and didn't want to sit at a proper restaurant and landed up in the food hall. We decided to go for Seafood at the Fish. The menu is basic fish and chips @ R80,Calamari fried @R75 starter or R95 main coarse.Prawns @R135 for 6 and 12 for R190. The do oysters and Sushi as well. We opted for the hake and chips and a calamari and chips, we were very happy with the choice a good size hake and a good portion of calamari. The fish was firm and flaky with a nice batter not to dark and not oily, the calamari tender.I recon the food we had was as good as any seafood franchise we had been to. There is no table service from Fish you go to the counter order andpay then they give you one of those little light goodies so when your food is ready the lights flash and you can collect your food. There is a nice relaxed atmosphere in the hall and they had an entertainer on guitar and singing.If one of your party you didn't want fish no problems you can choose from other outlets burgers,pizzas,steak and chips etc. Yes its a winner and we will go back again.

We had dinner at John Dory's Ballito Junction before going to the movies. Our waitress, Phindile, had a rude attitude. We ordered drinks and she couldn't tell me what the Singapore sling cocktail consists of had a irritated attitude. The restaurant was busy and when she brought our drinks we decided to order our food. She just place the drinks on our table and immediately turned away. My husband called her back and she had a irritated look in her face. We asked politely if we could place our order and when the the food arrived it was really good. I noticed that our waiter sat down at the table behind us and stared clearing the table. The next moment she stick her hand in her bra and took out money, exchanged it with the money on the table and then she stuck her hand in her bra again. I was just too late to capture her on camera but when she saw me watching her she quickly cleared the table. We finished our food and had to call her to give bring our bill after 15 minutes. it is so sad to see the poor waitrons try to satisify the needs of the patrons when they are so understaffed. they take the flack for dissatisfied diners whilst the owners are oblivious. \the food is wonderful but expect to wait simply toi get served. Prices are good and the menu is extensive enough to satisfy all -- but i do like a beer before we eat and the poor girl serving us was struggling. I believe that the patrons waiting for take aways add to the problem. Otherwise it would be a good dining experience--- but i felt the need to make another comment.

Although we have visited this restaurant many times we discovered a roof top dining area on our last but one visit. Excellent views, efficient service and typically good Ocean Basket food. We had a lovely evening with family on boxing day at Jack Salmon. This was our first visit. We enjoyed the freshest oysters and most delightful salmon & tuna poke bowls. The service was great, prices reasonable and overall a very memorable meal! Would visit again.
