In October of 2018, I visited Clare Heritage Center and had an appointment with Antoinette O’Bryen. I was interested in finding more information on my Lahiff roots from County Clare. I had done some research and basically was seeking confirmation and expansion on what I thought I already knew. She explained that they have a back log of interested clients and if I was willing to wait she would be willing to do more research. We agreed, and to be honest the waiting part was the hardest for me! I am thankful for each and every patient response Antoinette extended to my often pestering inquiries for updates or status of their research on my family. At times I worried that perhaps I would never learn more, but I was rewarded in December of 2019 with a packet containing a very thorough (more than 50 page) report. I was able to confirm much of my own research and was most happy to also receive expanded information and insights. She helped identify the locations of where my great great grandfather lived as a “herd” in the Barron. She reasoned through many documents and substantiated her conclusions and gave me all the paperwork, so I can follow up on much of it. I look forward to returning in Fall of 2020 with 8 to 10 of the Lahiff descendants. At this time the info will be shared with them and Antoinette will give our group a lecture about our family and the Famine period. She is asking a very fair compensation for doing this and we all eagerly await her informative talk. We plan to visit many of the spots she highlighted in the report and walk where grandfather John and Eliza walked. I wish to thank Antoinette and her staff for their excellent research and give my high endorsement and recommendation of their work. I encourage you to be patient as you await the research. It is worth the wait. I would also encourage you to ask for updates at the 3 or 4 month interval for your own peace of mind and to touch base with their team. You will be receiving a “thesis type” bound report filled with excellent insights and documentation. Consider ordering more than one copy to share with your family. I highly recommend!

Born in Carron in 1847, Michael Cusack founded the largest amateur sporting organisation in the world, the Gaelic Athletic Association. The Centre in Carron is dedicated to the memory of the man who is widely regarded as the saviour of Irish sports. The lovingly restored traditional thatched cottage reflects the character of 19th century Ireland. The dwelling appears today in its original state and is typical of famine cottages of the era. Even the courtyard and surrounding fields remain largely untouched. The contemporary display in our award winning visitor centre offers a unique perspective on Irish history, heritage and culture. Some interesting free attractions also in the area include the 6km Cusack Way walk (opened Oct 2013)from the Michael Cusack Centre to Cahercommaun Cliff Fort and Poulnabrone Dolmen. The centre caters for school tours, individuals and groups. Open April to 30th September, 7 days a week from 10 - 5pm,
I would really recommend this visit to any GAA enthusiast. It was humbling to visit the actual home that one of the founders of the GAA who met in Hayes' Hotel in Thurles in 1884 grew up in and went on to found the association.

A multimedia exhibition centre depicting and explaining the Burren, its flora, fauna, archaeology, geology and architecture.
If you're visiting the Burren for the first time, then the Burren Centre is definitely a good jumping off point. While the video and displays are a bit older (I would personally call them charming in a small-town way), they are certainly informative. As an Irish musician, I also thoroughly enjoyed the Kilfenora Ceili Band exhibit, but even if you're not versed in the music, there's still a bit of local history to be learned since music is such a big part of the culture.
In this self-guided & interactive visitor experience situated at the Burren Smokehouse, you will immerse yourself in the story of Irish Salmon. Follow it through time and watch the legend of the Salmon of Knowledge unfold before your eyes. Learn about modern aquaculture, solve jigsaw puzzles and quizzes! Suitable for school kids and adults. Good news for Instagrammers: there are selfie spots for you! Summer 2020: Visits are possible with pre-booking by email or phone.
