I'm not from Knoxville, but my son-in-law "knew a place" for great Mexican food. SoKno is not located in a high traffic area, but more like a quiet neighborhood. They were packed for lunch, which I understand is typical. The staff was friendly and the food was very good. I had a Quesadilla with Pollo (seasoned chicken with guacamole) and black bean salad. I was told that this is as much a late nigh bar as a restaurant, and I'm sure it would be a great hangout. The building is nothing spectacular but I would not call it a hole in the wall. The old converted building and furniture, along with the unusual decor/art, are all part of the uniqueness of the business.

This is a nice little place, not much on glitz, but plenty of good food and cold beer. I've been here a few times and have had no problems. It's in east Knoxville which is sorely lacking good Mexican food. Give it a try.
Ate here twice while in the area for business. The referral said it was one of the best Tex-Mex restaurants anywhere and that recommendation was spot on. GREAT margaritas, excellent service, generous servicings of very good food in an authentic setting. What more could you want?

Chivo is a unique, casual, full service restaurant that features our interpretation of tacos, fused with local ingredients. It boasts a decor that champions both Mexican and American cultures with a distinct, unrivaled selection of both tequilas and whisk
Had a great lunch at Chivo. The food and service were both great. Great tequila selection!! The margaritas were also excellent.

On a day trip to a Knoxville, westopped in Abueloâs for lunch. The chips were very fresh and thetrio of salsas were thick and tasty. My husband got the firecracker shrimp tacos they were very good and came with a great peanut sauce.I got the chili relleno and spinach enchilada both excellent. Also gota drink from the summer menu. The Coco pina-rita, the grilled pineapple put it over the top.

Chuy's Tex-Mex Mexican Restaurant has amazing chips and toppings bar. They also have the best creamy jalapeno dip, for chips made from scratch. My two sons and I order the sizzling combo fajitas with chicken and steak. When our sizzling fajitas combo plate arrived to our table is was warm almost cold. The service and our waiter Gary, was great, but it would have been nice if we had our fajitas combo sizzling hot!

We stopped in for lunch and it was amazing. The margaritas are great, the food was fresh, and our waitress was super nice. I was amazed at the lunch specials and prices, because you still get so much food.
