Things to do in Wheaton
We went to El Taco Loco on a Sunday afternoon. There were only one or two other customers. It is next door to a Peruvian chicken restaurant which was quite crowded. El Taco Loco is an inexpensive restaurant with little ambience. There isn't much on the outside that would draw you in. However the service at the counter is friendly and polite. We ordered tacos and the carne asada. The tacos were tasty, as good as those that I have had on my travels through Mexico. As for the carne asada, the meat was rather tough. But for $10.75 it wasn't unexpected. The rice was very good. If I were to return I would stick with the tacos. They are a sure bet.
I stumbled on this little brightly painted restaurant when driving my 89 year old mother back from visiting our Dad's cemetery plot. I have spent years in Central and South America and this place had the best ceviche I've tasted since Peru. It in NOT FANCY, but clean, authentic and so inexpensive. Full bar. Only Spanish speakers working and eating there, though they did speak some English. The help couldn't have been nicer to my Mom and seemed generally pleased to see her wheeled in. Ceviche. Chicken Soup. Rice. Pupusas. two beers. salad. and paella for $42. If you want something adventuresome and different, check this place out.
This is the latest outpost of a restaurant that has been in College Park and serves outstanding Salvadoran cuisine, papusas and other dishes. Wife and I had a great inexpensive dinner. I ordered the shrimp and pork papusas which were really fine, a balance of shrimp and/or pork with cheese in a shell served with a tangy slaw and some dipping sauce. Also ordered a side of plantains which were perfect with a nice glaze. Wife had a fried whole fish served with salad and a heaping mound of yellow rice. She usually leaves with a doggy bag but not tonight. She ate every morsel. Prices are quite inexpensive, all this food with a diet coke for about $ 24.Looking forward to our next visit. In the downtown Wheaton neighborhood, check it out!

We came across this Brazilian coffee shop by chance. We tried the acai bowl ($9) and a pineapple natural juice ($3.50). Both were very good. The acai bowl came with some bananas and strawberries on top. I ordered it without any honey. It's already sweet enough for my taste. My friends also tried the pao de queijo and pastel de carne. They looked yummy. Friendly staff.

Rated #1 Peruvian Pollo a la Brasa in the DC Metropolitan Area by Zagat and Washingtonian Magazine!!!
The chicken is out of this world. The seasoning is amazing and the chicken is just so moist and tender. The people preparing the food are obviously masters at their craft. I strongly recommend getting a lot of the yellow sauce. The flan is also to die for (look, I tried getting the rum cake but by 2pm they'd already sold out). Go eat here if you're in Wheaton--you won't leave hungry or unsatisfied.

I went to lunch with my daughter - on a recommendation that the pupusas were especially fine. We were not disappointed. They come with several fillings, beans and cream - also ordered a cream chicken dish that was nothing special. The serving sizes were generous, service attentive, setting quite nice and larger than it looks from the outside. I plan to go here again.
