Montreal, c’est si bon! This French-speaking city is considered the cultural capital of Canada, and is a cosmopolitan celebration of Québécois style. A horse-drawn carriage ride around the cobblestone streets and grand buildings of Vieux-Montréal will give you a taste of European flavor. The Basilique Notre-Dame is a confection of stained glass, and the Plateau Mont-Royal district will delight you with its quaint boutiques and cafés. Picturesque square popular with artists and writers.
A most pleasing area in the older more characterful quarter - so I am told. We enjoyed a stroll around the square taking in the excellent range of early last century houses on display - all replete with as much design and character as you could 'shake a stick at !' History seems to be being evoked from every pore of the buildings whilst you're in their very presence. What you might not know is that some of the walkways (we call them 'entrys' or 'ginnels' to the side and rear of properties have effectively been reclaimed and 'greened' up with a lot of hard work and effort as well as flora and some water features being introduced. So if you're in the vicinity do have a look to the sides / round the back of houses and see something unexpected and a little bit different that just can't fail to impress.
